I’m cramped with so many people I don’t know. I’m hungry, but I only taste bread, and nothing else. I was taken from my home, and swept away from the food and smells of Africa. Now I’m stuck, on a sweaty ship, with what looks like over 100 people! Me and my friend got captured together, we were mates, but one day, the captain said he was useless, and got thrown overboard. Every night I hear screams, and it’s scary. I’m scared to see what happens next in my life and I miss my old family.

My children are gone and my wife is on the other side of this ship. This has been a very difficult journey many have died and many are dying. I even saw a mother give birth while chained to a dead man. Our overseers are too drunk to notice anything and everyone here is just trying to breathe with a ceiling touching our noses. One by one everyone is slowly gone, people are dying right next to me, this is so terrifying. I am laying next to dead people, I can feel myself getting sick. But I don’t want to die on this ship. Why am I being treated like this? I have rights I am a human. I tried to kill the slavers but they almost killed me and my goal is to stay alive. If you were on this ship you would be terrified for your life. Hopefully once we get to the other side we won’t be treated as bad.

I was taken to an isolated place and then was beaten and brought to the coast. 400 slaves lined up on the beach and were cramped abound the ship and split up form our families and I was extremely scared. I did not get any food or water for almost 2 months and people were being killed and becoming sick and were not treated, this was truly cruel and they did no care if we lived or died.
