They are within a domain that provides what they need to learn new concepts but without regular structure.

Students are allowed to bring items from home and class that they think could help fix this problem.

When at the lake, the teacher is strictly a safety instructor. Students are using what they brought, or what they find, to make observations on what might help fix this problem. While there, students will be using IPads to document their findings. 

Once back at school, students will write a reflection piece on a Padlet page. Peers can comment on their observations.

Teachers should work to create as an authentic environment as possible. Assessments are not only based on individual achievement, but also by the group's progress towards the learning target.
