I really like this photo for a few reasons. I really like there is a soft filtered light that falls over the image. I also took it at my grandmother's house so it is of significant sentimental value. It reminds me of summer, my family and fresh fruit on warm summer afternoons. I love warm pinks and the cool greens in the fruit. I think by adjusting some of the colours, the image could be even better.

I really like this photo because the reflection on the water just gives it that extra level of creativeness. I also love the colours that are in this image as they are soft but vibrant in the middle which creates a sort of glow around my body.

I really like this photo because I like how calming the photo is. The yellow contrasts with the more dull colours and stands out. There are hints of the green colour from the plants. I took this photo in Vietnam at a popular tourist attraction. Although the roads were crowded and busy, this photo shows the calmer side of the place. The photo itself is quite dull, however, I really enjoy th pop of colour like the green and yellow.

i love this photo because it captures the hustle and bustle of my home life. you can see my mum kneading the dough for our dinner, while on the phone with her sister, doing some family gossiping. you can see the ironing board not even out away properly (i’m guilty of that) my little sister’s clothes, the garage open in the background. you can tell from my position that i’m lying down, probably just lazing around on my phone when i decided to snap the picture. not only that but the lighting of the warmer house lights and the blue of the sky provides a really pretty contrast that makes the photo very satisfying to look at and makes it look in proportion (the best of both worlds means equality/proportional/etc).

I really like this photo because the different pink and blue shades have reflected on the mountains. The light is reflecting very sharply on the mountains making them look very soft. It reminds me of early winter mornings when the sun is rising.

This is a photo that I took when the school singing teacher assigned us to recreate an artwork or album cover. I adore this photo because it reminds me of the time I spent doing this task with my younger sister. The way that the apple is placed in the foreground acts as an offering, and that reminds me of when she had had enough and basically begged me to let her leave. The true star of the photo is my younger sister, but I also love the depth in the photo; I really like the way in which the apple stands out in front, and how the background reflects a part of the setting that didn't make it into the photo. The dramatics that this photo displays through the centring of the subject/the blurring of the background and the extravagant - compared to the simple setting - outfit, is something I really like. I love the fact that if I look at this photo I will instantly be reminded of my little sister's antics.

I quite like this photo because of the silhouettes of the temples and trees across the horizon as well as the sunrise -constituted of a reddish orange colour merging into a nice blue- in the background. I also like how everything is reflected on the water, making the image even more visually pleasing. Additionally, this photo holds many valuable memories for me as I remember during our holiday in Cambodia, we woke ourselves up at 3am to capture pictures of the sunrise at this landscape.

This is a photo I took while I was on holiday in Japan, Sapporo. I really like this since it was really pretty when it snowed there and this shrine's dark brown colour contrasted very nicely with the white snow. The hue of this photo is a slightly gray or brown which makes the photo look somewhat old or vintage. I also really like this photo since it is extremely memorable of my holiday.

This picture means a lot to me in a sentimental sense because it is taken back in Sri Lanka with my brother and two of my closest cousins. I had been the only girl on my mum's side of the family for a while, so I was given the chair while everyone else had to sit around me (as you can see from my face, I am very pleased about this). I like how the green of the bushes and trees in the background is illuminated by the camera flash; some bordering areas of the background are dull and in the shadows, which allows the four of us to stand out in the image. There is a slight grey filter and it dulls the aesthetic of the photo. The photo's major significance stems from its setting and characters- which I only get to experience/ interact with once every two years or so, even less so with COVID-19.

This is a simple photograph of a flower in a clear, blue sky. I like this photo because it is simplistic yet is visually appealing to the eye. I find it interesting how high the saturation and contrast is so it creates a pretty effect. This is exemplified with the rose being the focal point of the photo. The tone of the photo is quite calm due to the flat, close up composition.

This is a photo of me and my friend and I really like the contrast in this picture. This photograph shows how lighting can play an important part as there are the shadows near the bottom. And I really liked the angle of where we took the photo cause we were on a tennis court and the line at the bottom shows the difference in sizes for the things in this photograph.

This is Pokee! He's a famous hedgehog on instagram. I really enjoy looking at this photo because it radiates so much positivity and happiness. With the hedgehog in the middle, it draws your attention first to it's cute little smile. The background also plays a big role, as it is mostly green trees, it allows Pokee to stand out without the colours being so clashing. The sky in the backdrop is plentiful of pastel colours which also contributes to the overall bright ambience.

This picture may not be the most brightest or colourful photo but I love the faded and dim tone of it. Not many people would edit a photo and attempt to fade out the colour but by looking at this photo, I feel very warm inside. I also love how my camera focused on the strawberry and fork and blurred out the background. Even though the objects in the background are really random and the colours kind of clash, but for some reason, it doesn't really bother me. It's unique yet comforting to look at it. :)

This photo is of my brother and his friend from our trip to Bali. I love this photo because you can see the happiness of the two boys. The photo holds sentimental value, as I am close with my brother, and it's nice to see him happy. The red from his shirt and the soft greenery contrasts nicely with the darker colours of the table and chairs, putting more emphasis on the two boys. It reminds me of the memories my family and I had travelling, before corona.

I found this picture off Google, and it shows Manila, in the Philippines, where I was born. I really like this photo because many people usually think of Manila as a dirty, polluted country. Although it may be true, not all parts of Manila is like that. This picture displays the beautiful lights on the buildings, giving viewers a 'wow-factor' that Manila is also beautiful despite all its negative features.

I found this photo in my camera roll from a rowing regatta in December last year. The reason I love this photo is because the background is a bit chaotic compared to most of the photos I have. People are moving with boats, the oars are right in front of us, etc, and I think it brings to life the feeling of these competitions and makes me miss it. The photo is also special to me because of who's in it. The four girls in the middle at the back were my crew when we won this regatta, and we all became close during the season, so they are very important to me.

This is a photo of the floating temple in Bali. I like this photo because of the old and vintage vibe it gives. This is a photo of me and most of my year 7 and 8 class. This photo is really important to me because the people in it are like my family and this was the last day I got to spend with them before coming to MacRob. Just looking at this picture brings back so many memories, not just of this day but the 2 years we got to spend together. I love how majority of the background looks washed out and similar in colour and then the leaves on the big tree stand out with a beautiful rich green colour (which is still a bit washed out but stands out more than anything else in the background). I also love that the whole picture looks kind of dark but then the white we're wearing and all the other colours jump out at you.

This photo was taken in WW2, of British chikdren protecting themselves from air raids in an improvised bomb shelter. All the children in this image, with the exception of one (who may be their teacher, it is unclear) are easily much younger than me, yet they have experienced more trauma and stress than I could even imagine. It's sad to know that their innocence was taken away from them at such a young age, and I'm deeply intrigued and sympathetic towards this photo. I think this image captures the raw emotions of these children, and how wars no matter how big or small will inevitably affect children, the most innocent among us all.

This was a photo taken in my friend's backyard around March last year when it was her birthday. The photo is really blurry as it's actually a screenshot from my friend's phone, who has the actual photo, but I love this photo nonetheless. I really like how the photo turned out, even if my face is partially blocked because of the sunlight and we took it on the timer setting. Here's a screenshot of my progress so far :) I chose a portrait photo of a girl playing with fairy lights. I was drawn to this photo because the various lighting sources looked fun to play around with in the gradient map. To make the contrast look appealing I used the complementary colours yellow and violet. Meddling with the colour wheel was amusing since I am quite new to photoshop and add new colour stops gave the picture more depth. I tried to make the girl stand out from the background by adjusting it to be darker. I also used quite a light yellow so it can pop out from the violet. Finally, I created a another layer of gradient map on top of it to add some finishing touches. For me, it creates a harmonious effect.

This is one of the duotone photos I have done so far. I chose this photo because it was a really well-taken photo in my opinion. I wanted to highlight her eyes, because that was what drew me to the photo in the first place. To make this duotone photo look appealing, I used the contrasting colours violet and yellow, as the dark colours complement the light. Experimenting with the different colours was fun, trying to see what colours look good together. I tried to make sure that there was a lot of yellow on her face, as if a sun was shining on her.

This is one of the duo-tones I have been working on. I chose this picture because it is one of my favourite photos with my dad and I really like the picture in general. It has a calm background and I felt it would work well with the project as it also brings out the focus of the image. After playing around with photoshop and experimenting different types of duo-tones and the colours, I chose the complementary colours of blue-green and red-orange. I felt these colours really brought out the texture well in the image as well as complimenting the original photo without being too extreme and making the photo look unnatural. I played around with the darkness and deepness of colours to establish the 'highlight' colour and the 'shadows' colour and settled on a deeper colour for the red and a pale but defined colour for the blue. I feel this worked very well as the red is not too dark hiding fine details of the photo and the blue it not too bright, therefore not taking the focus away from the image to the completion of the photo.

This is one of the duotone photos I have been working on, taken from a copyright free website. I worked with the contemporary colours of red and green (the leaves/flowers on her headpiece made her look very ethereal and I thought green could highlight that, and you can't have green without red). Though I made the green more vibrant than the red since I really just wanted red to be a dark backdrop for the image of the woman - something that gives this photo a very sinister feel. I did experiment with harmonious colours, but they didn't have the same contrasting effect, the colours mainly just blended into each other and I didn't like that. I do, however, really like how this one turned out. In terms of just how much green and how much red, I had to experiment with the colour stop, a lot. In the end, my green colour stop stopped much closer to the middle to create the highlights on the woman's face. The red colour stop didn't remain where it was either, in order to have the women fade a little, I had to have some of the red overwhelm green, so the stop a little to the middle. I am pretty happy with how this turned out, however, I do want to experiment with the vibrance of the red a little more as it doesn't resemble red very much.

I'm having trouble with this effect because when I double click the gradient map, it doesn't come up with the "presets". I used the complementary colours, violet and yellow. This is my duotone photo so far. This photo appealed to me, because it is raw and fierce. I wanted to edit it in a way that enhanced these features. I have experimented with many colour combinations so far- applying complimentary colours to analyse which of them delivered the 'vibe' I was trying to create. This experimentation of colours was the main technique I used. I found that having multiple gradient maps created, then- once done- clicking through and comparing was a key tool that helped me out. This provided me to make quicker decisions, as well as sustain my memory of all the different versions I had made earlier. I adjusted the darker (black) side of the colour stop the most, to create a shadow on the right side of her face. This also accentuates the red, alluding a red-light photo shoot effect. I changed my the duotone edit I had before (where I used yellow and violet), because this combination of red and black allows a connection between the tone of the image and the woman- who seems confident and fiery.

This is the duotone photo I have been working on so far. I thought this photo was very unique as the original photo had three different colour of paint on her face and it would be interesting to see the three colours contrast each other when I make it duotone. So far I haven't been able to achieve that but I think it could be possible after some testings. The colours I picked were yellow and violet as they are complimentary colours and I wanted there to be a dark violet, light yellow and a somewhat orange mix in the middle.

This is my duotone picture. This is a photo of my little brother against a plain white wall. I went for a bold and vibrant look so the complementary colours I chose were red-orange and blue-green. I experimented in switching the colours around (so the wall became pink and the jumper became blue-green) but it wasn't what I was aiming for. At first, I didn't really like how the colours didn't blend together so I kept adjusting it, but eventually, I ended up liking the 2 solid colours . Overall, I liked how bold it turned out and might experiment with layers a bit more since I only have 1 so far

Below is my first completed duotone picture. I have chose this portrait of a girl because it is easy for the eye to look at, as the girl is the main subject and the background is not too distracting. The colours i have decided to use on this photo are a deep indigo blue, and a bright hot pink. These colours are contrasting tones and allow the features of her face to be easily seen against the pink. At first, i used a lighter blue but i realised that it made my photo more artificial looking and not natural. So i ended up going further up on the gradient map and dragging my cursor to a darker colour. The overall product looks very vibrant and dynamic.

The image below is one of my duotone images. While choosing the complementary colours for this image, I wanted to give a calm and soft feeling. That is why I chose paler versions of Blue and Orange-Yellow. This feeling fits with her face expression, which is calm. However, she also looks like she's longing for something and blue represents both feelings of calmness and longing. As for the yellow-orange, it brings out her expression and the flowers on her head, contrasting. Throughout the process, I had to readjust the values on the gradient map to find the right combination that doesn't hurt to look at or is too dull. I also used control-Z and control-shift-Z to compare the before and after colour changes to see which one I liked better.

This is the progress I have made on my duotone photo. I liked this photo because it's a bit funny and it is also really simple with not much going on in the subject and the background. I chose to use the colours blue and orange as they are complimentary colours on the colour wheel and I feel that the dark blue is a good replacement for the otherwise black background. So far, it looks similar to a photo taken on a disposable camera but I might change the colours after experimenting more. I would like to keep the colours of the same tone, brightness and saturation so that even though they are "opposites" they still look cohesive.

This is one of the duotone picture that I have been working on. It is a picture of a girl standing in front of a plain wall. I like how the background isn't too busy and gives the image a sense of simplicity. I used orange and purple as the two main colours after I experimented with other colours like orange and blue and green and red but I found that this colour combination looks the best. I like the contrast between the colours. If I was to try this again I would add a gradient into the background. With my next picture I might try using pastel colours.

This is one of two photos that I am going to work on for my duotone assignment. I'm having a little trouble with accessing Photoshop, but I think it's something I can resolve. I chose this photo because it's a really simple yet pretty photo of the beach that I took. I have not yet decided which pair of complementary colours I will use for the photo, because I haven't been able to experiment with it but I think violet and yellow would be a great match. I'm looking forward to work on this photo more.

I've been experimenting with multiple different pictures and different colour combinations. I like these three pictures in particular because they are quite simple yet have a lot to them. I experimented with different harmonious colours with all the pictures and I feel the ones I have chosen suit them best because they compliment the original colours of the picture and do not make the photo look unnatural. I played around with different tones of the complimentary colours and where the colour stop sat on the gradient map. For the blue and orange picture I went for a more muted blue instead of a vibrant one. With the purple and orange one and played around with the opacity of the colours. I'm enjoying experimenting with duotone and I'm looking forward to playing around with different colours and different photos.

This is the progress I have made on one of my duotone pictures. I chose this picture of one of my favourite singers off google. The plain, white background gives off a sense of simplicity, and focuses the viewer's attention to the singer. I've been experimenting with a bunch of colours like pink and purple, blue and purple, and blue and orange to figure out which one matches the vibe of the image. I've decided to choose a blue and purple transitioning to pink colourway, as I feel as though it matches this singer's vibe along with her songs. My first picture is more of a practice image, so for my next one, I'd like to experiment a bit further by adding in more layers and changing up some things to match with the image's features.

I chose to use warmer colours for this picture because it brings out the natural aesthetic with its dark pastel tones. This is one of my duotone photos. I have tried to contrast the girl's skin with her darker features such as her eyes. I experimented by adding different layers, realising that each layer towards the end of the gradient scale affects a smaller portion of the photo. This is why I have added so many colour stops; to add detail and shades of the two complimentary colours I chose of blue and orange. This photo is fairly sombre and sad, with her eyes looking almost hurt. I really wanted to focus on making her eyes darker, so that it stood out more. This is one of my duotone photos. After experimenting with different complementary colours, I decided that the violet and yellow duo tone would suit this image the best. The background is surrounded with various leaves, which makes it somewhat busy. However, after using a purple tone, the background blends in with each other creating a simple and blurred out effect. The yellow turtleneck contrasts with his face and makes the subject appear more prominent. His face harmoniously blends in with the background, but is also stands out when the yellow tones highlight the high points in his face. I choose a more darker yellow, and a deep violet to make the photo more dynamic and vibrant.

I have been experimenting with different colours that I think would match the feel of the image and so far have decided to use blue and orange as the two colours complement each other and are quite vibrant. For me, the image gives off a strong, powerful sort of aura, so I decided to choose colours that stood out.

This is one of my duotone photos. I've been experimenting with different complementary colours using the gradient map but the purple and yellow duotone is my favourite and I think it would suit the photo quite well. The way the photo is taken, the butterfly accessories and the model's pose creates a kind of mysterious and dark fantasy feel. I think my duotone compliments that and amplifies the feeling and mood of the photo more. I had trouble with the purple because I didn't want to make it too light but when I make it darker, the hair, butterflies and background would blend in thus not making the details visible but I got to the colour I'm satisfied with at the end.

I have selected a non-copyrighted image of a pomeranian dog, sunglasses and a cocktail glass. The background of this photograph is simple, making the main objects stand out. After experimenting with the gradient map, I decided to go with the complementary colours of orange/yellow and blue/purple. The photo originally had a lot of orange tones and undertones (the dog itself, the background, the orange slice and drink in the glass). The purpose of the purple being added, was not only to make it a duotone image, but was also an attempt to strengthen the orange. I added contrast and brightness in the image to make the differences in the colour scheme more obvious. I may tweak the shades in the image more tomorrow.

For my duo tone image I chose a non-copyrighted image from unsplash.com. The image that I chose is a portrait of a women. I experimented with lots of different complementary primary colours and chose purple and yellow. The complementary primary colours purple and yellow really makes the picture bold as the yellow brings out details in her makeup and accessories, whilst the purple adds a nice basic tone that helps balance out the overall tone.

For my duotone image, I purposefully selected a non-copyrighted photo that included some sort of light manipulation as I thought it would add interest to the image and help to really bring out the subject and her features, after my first duotone image attempt turning out somewhat bland. I experimented with numerous complementary colour combinations such as blue and orange as well as yellow and violet, but eventually settled on red and green. For each harmonious colour combination I also experimented with their tones/lightness/darkness on the gradient maps to observe which would produce the best final result. Surprisingly, moving the colour stops drastically changed how my image looked, with the red initially being light yet still dull, and ending up to be neon and vibrant after moving the red colour stop slightly to the right. I think the colours I chose suit the picture well since the red pops out dramatically against the contrasting green, which emphasises the subject's eyes, eyebrows and hair. The duotones also create an ambience of being somewhere fun and exhilarating, perhaps a club or disco, which enhances the viewer's experience and interpretation of the image.

For my duotone image I chose a photo of my friend's dog ( with their permission ). I experimented with many different complementary colour options like purple and orange, blue and yellow, before finally deciding to use this vibrant red and teal colour. I played around with contrast and the colour levels to show the small details on the dog's face. The small amounts of teal bring out the shadows and dimensions of the dog's face. I may use a purple and yellow for the other photo that I submit.

This is another duo tone picture that I've completed. After playing around with the gradient map for a while, I realised that I could add multiple layers to the picture. I started off with the simple black and white gradient and changed the colours from there. I chose to make this picture the complementary colours, blue and orange. I choose dark blue and bright orange because I found that one bright colour and one dull colour would help the picture stand out. I added another layer and added the colours black and white. By playing around the colourstops of this layer I was able to adjust the brightness of the photo. I'm quite happy with this picture and is the best one that I've done after experimenting for a long time.

This week's task was solarisation. Here is my progress with my colour solarisation image. This was actually going to be my black and white solarised final image but when I deleted the black and white layer visibility, I literally fell in love with the colours. As you can see with my curve tool, I went a bit wild and broke the set V shape of the graph. I am not quite sure if I was allowed to do this but in the end, it does look super colourful and I am proud of my work. :))

This is one of the solarisation photos I am currently working on. Originally, this was a photo of my friend sitting on a playground stump like thing, taken at my other friend's apartment complex (a while before Stage 3 and 4). Although the photo wasn't taken recently, I really liked the way the photo was taken, and how my friend was positioned so I decided to work on it (the other photo I'm working on was taken during class time). As I worked on solarising the image though, I realised the photo didn't really look that nice to me, but when I went to scrap it, I saw the top part and really liked the 2D-like effect that it had so I decided to crop the whole photo to that one section. Now, I am currently trying to see if I prefer the solarised image in colour, or black and white, as I like the look of both.

At first, I thought that the photo was too chaotic to use for this project, as it didn't follow any of the composition guidelines, but I tried it anyways and I am glad that I did. I found that the ragged lines of his already black-and-white fur and whiskers solarised really well, making for an interesting picture.

Below is my progress of the B&W solarised image. It is a photograph of my father's orchids and garden decoration piece (ladybug). At first, I was going to convert it into a coloured solarised piece but the inverted colours did not suit the image well. So, I stuck with B&W. As I worked on the solarised image, the U shape got flatter, however, it still maintains it's form. This is because where it was before, it was party overwhelming to the eye.

This is my colourised solarised image. After experimenting, I have decided the colour version looks better than the black and white. The vibrant blue hair makes the subject stand out more, however, the gold highlights tie in nicely with the warm tone background. On the graph, I dragged the centre point more down to emphasise the dark background. I have also moved the two sides to make the hair lighter and vibrant. The contrast between colours and tones makes this image blend harmoniously.

This is my third attempt at solarising an image, and I think I've finally figured out what I'm doing. The previous photos that I had used were too busy, and the tones of it clashed or blended together making it look really messy. In this photo of my friend's dog, Milo, I have tried to focus on contrasting his eyes and hair to the background. I tried to get the photo to follow the 'rule of thirds' composition guideline, with Milo's eyes at the intersection point in the top left corner. I am yet to experiment turning this into a possible colour solarised image.

This is one of the images I decided to solarize. It's a simple photo of a fake plant I had laying around the house. I love how simple yet interesting this photo is when it's solarized. You almost can't tell what it is, giving it a sense of mystery and unusualness which I like. I like that the background is plain but still has evident shadows. Because the background is blank the subject of the image stands out even more. The solarized effect adds to how much it stands out with it looking as though it's almost glowing. I think solarization fits this image really well, keeping it simple and unusual.

I think it was a bit hard to move them around because the leaves of the tree wasn't very clear making them seem fully white or grey. This is my colour solarisation image of a plant in my house. This image was taken with the composition guideline of simplicity focusing only on the plant in mind. At first, I played around with the curves making it black and white but then I tried to colourise it and see how it looks. At the end, I really chose to keep the solarisation coloured because I really like how the plant looks purple. It makes the plant seem its magical. The shadows tone and colour also look really cool with like a blurry blue effect.

This is my solarisation picture I took of a cliff in Lorne. I used this photo because the lighting was on the sea which made it look very bright. This is my progress on my coloured solarisation picture. Initially, this picture lacked colour, with the houses in the background being varied tones of dull, neutral colours and the entire image appearing lifeless— not at all appealing to the eye. However, after adding a new adjustment layer showing curves, then following the given directions and moving the nodes into a line that resembled a parabola, I was able to transform the original picture into something more vivid and fascinating. I also adjusted the nodes to make the colours pop out even more, to a point where they look bright and eyecatching, yet not too overwhelming or overbearing.

This is my progress on my B&W solarised image. It's an image I took of my younger sister holding up a telescope (get it? solarised, solar, solar system, telescope). In the original photo the blanket my little sister was wearing was red, white and brown, but is now a light tone of black with white and grey highlights. I didn't want this photo to look completely contrasted; I didn't want to just have a solid black contrasting with a solid white. I really wanted to have the two blend into each other, and I found that that could be achieved by moving the point at the far right down a little, not keeping the curve in a direct parabola shape. However, bringing the point all the way down into a line had the background turning more black than I hoped. I like how this turned out, but I continue experimenting.

This is my flower image that I will be using for my coloured double exposure task. I chose this particular photo of a cherry blossom because I think it'll make an interesting effect when merged with a picture of myself. In the screenshot I am playing around with the curves tool. I increased the light for the midtones and lowered the highlights. This created an appealing look which was what I was going for. Not only that, but I darkened the background to contrast from the bright pink flowers.

This is the portrait of myself I have been working on. At first I had the curves in a soft S like Ms Koulouris recommended, however, it didn't have enough contrast for this particular photo. I realised that I wanted my hijab to really stand out and have it really black, so I moved the curve so that the bottom was completely horizontal to the black gradient of the x axis. The hardest part so far has been actually taking the portrait, and then, selecting a portrait. I'm not sure if I am going to stick with this photo or not, but I have plenty to experiment with.

This is the self portrait I have been editing and progressing through. I, initially, aspired to replicate the curve pattern that the instruction video had, however, I now realise that there is an overwhelming grey tone that I need to replace with more contrast. While utilising David Rosetzky's 'Lyu with orchid' as inspiration, I also endeavored to create a 'Vogue', 'Chanel' or 'Dior' aesthetic in my Double Exposure image. Additionally, I cropped this image to allow the eye to focus on my diagonally placed shoulder, as well as my chin area (with the Rule of Thirds). To improve this edit, I will bring more darker tones into the image, to rid the monotonous grey tinge, as well as experiment with the curve pattern rather than staying with the 'slight s'.

this is one that I have been working on. At first I added a black and white layer. I added a new adjustment layer and added a curve. I made a soft S shape with the curve. This highlighted my darker features and lighten my skin and background which made a contrast. The hardest part of this was taking a photo. These were one of many attempts and im still deciding what photo I will use for my final one. This is the self portrait that I am currently working on. Using the curve layer, I moved different points around to create an 's' shape . The image has a nice contrast between my face and my shirt. After experimenting, the curve created an image that has a softer look within the subject, but a good contrast with the background. While taking the photo, I have tried to use cropping and framing to make the subject stand out more, but to also get rid of some shadow and unnecessary detail.

I found a few floral pictures and I ended up picking this one. The portrait is quite simple and taken from a lower angle than normal so, the subject of the picture is the focal point and takes up majority of the picture. Because of this, I wanted the flowers I picked to be quite small and simple hence why I picked this photo. I think it will frame the portrait really well and highlight certain features that have been placed within the rule of thirds. Overall I think this floral arrangement will be complement the portrait best.

I found it really difficult to take a photo of myself for several reasons. The first and main one being that I rarely do so I found it really difficult to find a good angle. In addition to this there was nearly nowhere in my house that I could go because most walls and places in my house made the background crowded and not very aesthetically pleasing. I'm currently working on find a flower image that will work with the photo that I took and I am also experimenting with the blacks and whites of my photo.

This is my progress on the flower component of the double exposure portrait thus far. It was difficult to find a flower image that I could envision merging my portrait image with, as I had a certain look for my double exposure portrait in mind. After experimenting with numerous flower images I downloaded from Pexels and turning them into b&w, I finally settled on this one since I liked the positioning of the branches and thought that after rotating it, this image would be able to merge into my portrait nicely. Watching through the tutorial, I followed the steps of adding new adjustment layers, one to make my image black and white, and the other (curves) to adjust the tones to my liking. I found that simply mimicking the steps of the video to adjust, which involved moving one node that was more to the right of the curve/line up slightly and moving another node that was more to the left down slightly, was enough to drastically increase the contrast of this image, making the flowers and branches stand out and achieving the result I was looking for.

This is my progress so far on the double exposure portrait. I lowered the opacity of the flower to blend with my image and I adjusted the midtones using curves. I then transformed the flower into an appealing size. To create a softer look I used a brush with 40% opacity to somewhat blend the two layers together. I wanted to showcase the flower without losing emphasis on my face.

This is my progress with overlaying the floral image onto my black and white portrait. I improved from last time's padlet post by creating more of a contrast in my portrait, ridding the overall grey tones. This way, I've added more contour to my left cheek, as well as implementing lighter tones to my right cheekbone. I experimented with different floral layouts to see which one complimented my portrait the best. I had about 6 flowers saved, to trial each one as an overlay. I chose this particular one because it frames my face well- allowing the eye to follow the flower's growth outwards to my face. I would like to improve this double exposure by blurring the border lines of the overlayed image, as it adds unnecessary structure to my edit. Additionally, it takes away from the hazy yet 'full of attitude' aesthetic of my image.

This is my progress with the flower double exposure picture. I tried to make the flower less visible by lowering its opacity and making my face stand out more. I used the blur tool to blur out some sharp edges from the flowers' petals so they can fit in with my face more. I also used the curve tool to change the properties of my image such as making the image more grey and the flowers lighter in colour. I experimented with a few varieties of flowers and finally decided on the roses as they are large and they contrast well with my image. Additionally, they also look well with the unique lighting I have in this image as the top half are very light grey whilst the bottom are a darker grey.

This is my progress on the final step of the double exposure portrait process. After transferring both of the images onto one page in Photoshop, I rotated the flower image anti-clockwise so that rather than branching out towards the side, the flowers appear to be reaching skywards instead. After doing so, I changed the drop-down box function from normal to darken, then I adjusted the size and corners of the flower image in order to position them in a way that suited my portrait nicely. When I was happy with the way they merged together, I attempted to follow the provided video and blur a few sections, however I didn't like how that turned out therefore I decided to keep it as it was. To create more contrast and add different tones to my portrait, I used the gradient map and made the dark sections even darker, and the lighter sections a lighter colour, yet still tried to maintain the grey areas and shadowing. Lastly, I cropped the image to remove the extra negative space at the top.

Below is my close-to finished double exposure image. I have chosen to use a side profile self portrait to contrast my dark hair against the white background. As for my flower image, it is predominantly white in hope to stand out from my hair. Once overlaying the two photos, i used the curves layer to adjust how dark or how light i wanted my image to be. I made a sort of diagonal shape where the black and white tones are accentuated and sharp. I also really like how the shape of the flower makes it eyes stand out from all the white. To further improve. i think i will play around with the positioning of the flower.

This is my progress so far for the double exposure image. The flower fits my face nicely and the petals align well with the contours of my face. The pistil covers my eyes and gradually branches out giving it an eerie feel. After overlaying both images, I used the curves tool to darken the centre and the leaves of the flower. I also cropped the empty and unnecessary space on the right to put more focus on the flower. I will have to also go in with the blending tool to make everything seamless.

Below is the progress of my double exposure image. Since my hair and clothing are dark, I chose to make the flowers and orchid lighter in comparison, to contrast and balance out the image. However, I only decided this after experimenting with different layer settings and other PS tools. The images I took from copyright-free website, had rather dark backgrounds as well. So, I had to use other PS tools such as the blur, smudge and eraser tool. In the end, I rather like how it turned out. The flowers look kind of ghostly and mystic.

This is my progress so far on my double exposure image. After playing around with the original floral image I picked I realised it wasn't working with the photo. So I experimented with different floral images and I ended up picking this one because I think it works with the portrait really well. I had to flip the image and rotate it to make it fit how I wanted to. I love how the branch follows the flow of the hair and how it doesn't over power the portrait. During the first week the double exposure unit, after looking at examples I wanted to somehow frame the eye because I think it creates a really powerful image so I tried to incorporate that this week. I had to crop branches from the original floral and place them where I wanted to get the look I was going for. Now I'm just working on blurring and fixing the positing of the floral.

This is my progress so far on my double exposure image. I have rotated my floral image for it to come from the top of my portrait. I have adjusted and the size and position of the image to have the leaves and branches frame my face. I have also changed the tones of my original portrait using the curves and gradient map, as I felt the colours were too dark to contrast with the leaves. Not only have I darkened the floral layer, I have also multiplied it, which darkened some areas of the image. I tried experimenting with other functions in the drop down box such as overlay or colour burn but I felt that neither matched my image. Using the blurring tool, I was able to make some areas stand out, and others be hazy in the background. This gave my image more depth.

My progress so far on my double exposure image. I have been experimenting with the position and alignment of my plants and portrait. I have had my flowers come in to my image from the top right corner and have them sitting around and on top of my face. I have aligned the flowers in a way where they overlap my right eye and had two petals sit on top of a section of my lips. I also got rid of a flower below my left eye as it had no shape and looked like a dark spot which essentially ruining my double exposure image. Overall, I love how it turned out but for next time I would probably choose a flower image with larger petals.

I decided on this particular place for the photo, because it's a source of creativity and relaxing- which I thought would be fitting for this assignment. The photo frames also hold sentimental value, as it shows both my brother and I at the same age (even though we're 6 and a half years apart, if that makes sense). For this project, since I chose a picture of a bathroom, I decided to go for a beachy, clean and fresh colour scheme, so naturaly I chose a yelowish beige and blue. I am still not quite happy with the tones of the colours so I might experiment with making the blue a bit lighter and changing the colours of some items on the sink. It is really simple and I don't think there is any originality to it but I do like how I decided to colour the wall with the 2 chosen colours with no sense of pattern (if that makes sense)... Overall, this is very close to my finished product and I will continue adjusting until I am happy with it. :D

This is the progress that I've currently made on my home task. I decided to change the image location to my bed, as the previous one I had chosen was a bit messy, and didn't have a "home" feeling to me. I wanted the elements of the image to be quite simple, not too much detail anywhere as that is what I feel represents the idea the idea of home with my bed. At the moment, my image is all just shades of purple but I don't plan to keep it that way, I only did that so that I knew which sections I wanted to be a solid colour and I haven't fully planned a colour theme for this yet.

For this home task, I decided to use realistic colours to depict my garden. I used various tones of green, brown and creme colours to put some contrast within the subject itself. I also decided to add some more vibrant colours to the image which made the foreground and background stand out. I used the same shades of red and purple for both sections. However, I think the background and foreground might stand out too much, and it appears to look random within the image. I am still experimenting with colours for those parts.

This is the progress I've made on my home series image. Originally I planned the image to be my bed but changed to my desk because I felt as though there weren't enough elements in the image of my bed to colour. When coloring, I've adopted both pastel colours as well as more vibrant and dark colours. In the floating boxes on the wall, I've tried to create shadows with the use of different tones of one colour. Majority of the image is coloured but there are still some blank areas next to my bottle that I would like to add colour to.

This is a picture I took from my parents car. I really liked this image because the steering wheel is the main focus of the image which I thought I could make it stand out the most. I used pastel colours for the background of the car whilst i coloured the steering wheel with bright neon colours that stand out. I also really wanted to make the Mercedes Benz logo stand out, and I achieved that by making it a mix of bright blue and neon pink. For this project, a lot of the inspiration for my image came from artworks by different artists that were displayed in the galleries across the world. Some materials I have used to create this piece of artwork are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe capture and a phone camera. I used many different functions to produce my work. I changed the opacity for a few of the colours and I also added different colour filters to change it up.

I have chosen some items from around the house to create my still life photo graph. When choosing, I made the conscious decision to have a consistent aesthetic of rustic browns and greens. I believe a candle will work best as my light source, to form the ethereal mood I am striving for. Alongside this, I will wait until sunset to gain the beautiful warm orange tones in my image, as there are two large windows (facing the the sun setting- West) to let in the sunlight. I experimented with the positioning of my objects, and concluded by having the hourglass as the centre focus. Not only does it look dominating, as the sand runs out, but- for me- it also symbolises the repetitive nature of time during lockdown. I will play around more with the camera angles, to see which works best in capturing the shadows, benefits the positioning of the objects, and the mood I am going for. I might add in a black back drop (a black sheet/clothing) to build on the vibe, but I am not sure if it will take away from the orange filter that the sunlight creates.

I have chosen these objects from around my house to really explore and I like the range of heights the different objects provide as well as the neutral tones throughout the pieces. I have used the light from the candle as well as a yellow light to the left side of the image to cast the shadow across the photograph. The yellow light I used really gave the piece a soft look that I was going for rather than a bright white light. I put black paper around the objects to really experience the lights and darks of the image. I am playing around with the editing of the photo as I like the composition but the colours I feel could be more warm to get the effect that I am going for.

These are the few items I want to incorporate in my still life photograph. I really went with a gold and ancient chique(?) theme. I like how the items are placed, however, I do think that the light is overpowering, especially in regards to the ethereal mood I aim for. I suspect, I will need a black backdrop. I also found that the light source in this photo didn't provide the warmth I was hoping for, and so aim to change that by experimenting with the time of sunset. Candles are also an option. I do like the shadows, but I really want the light to hit off of all the metallic and gold areas in some of these items, I want them to be noticeable. I did experiment with a narrower frame for this photo, but decided to have it landscape. I have more decisions to make.

Here are some items that I have chosen to incorporate into my project. As my light source, I used my window on the left. I tried to explore different ranges of height by adding objects on top of one another. I have also experimented with the placement of the objects. Most of my objects are white however I tried to add some colour by placing a jar of wrapped candy. I'm going to experiment some more with the light source by waiting for sunset and seeing if anything changes. I haven't decided an arrangement for my objects yet so it might change in the future.

These are a few items I plan to incorporate in my Chiaroscuro project. My light source comes from the window located on my right source. To add a more focused difference between the shadow and light, I added a candle. My background consist of plain whites and grey. The hints of colour coming from the apples and lemons are focused due to its darker colours. This makes it dominant to our eyes so I plan to add them to contrast with the overall atmosphere. I am still on the progress of adjusting the arrangement of my objects. I also want to experiment with the lighting and how I can create a more intense contrast between the shadow and light.

These are the few items I am looking to explore for my finished photograph. The objects are a variety of potted plants on my lounge drawer. The light source I used was natural lighting from the window across it. I played around with the lighting by pulling the blinds up and down. I found the effect to be interesting and I kept fiddling with it until I thought it looked decent. I will probably add more of a warm tone and increase the contrast in the editing process so it emphasises the chiaroscuro effect. Not only that, but I will incorporate the photography principles we learnt in class to make it a more finished piece.

I have two different themes that I would like to try to see which one turns out better.
The first theme is old and antique.
These are the items that I would like to incorporate into my still life photo. These items have an antique theme and I am planning to set them out on the ground with a black background. I have yet to find a suitable place to take the picture. I think I could also incorporate a candle into the photo to give it a more old and gloomy look. I would have to cut down on the items that I have chosen because I don't want the photo to look too crowded.
The second theme is a more modern theme and these are the items that I would like to use. I would like to set them up on a white table however I haven't found an appropriate place yet. I have thought of the placement of the items. I'm planning to have the chess at the back, the books in the front left, the glasses on top of the book, the apple next to the books, the coffee cup in the front right and the origami stars scattered around. In contrast with the other theme, I am aiming for a fresh bright look with this photo.

These are the things i am planning to include in my photo. This is in my kitchen and right next to the photo there is a window as my light source and the corner of the kitchen also provides slight darkness. I experimented with the blinds and I thought this was the best scenario as its not too dark but there is also light. I used black tea towels to make a dark background. I used the curves tool to lighten the fruits and darken the bench slightly and it was a different type of black to the tea towels.

Here is the general overall setup I am going to have for this project. I just realised that there is a slight filter on this picture which I will definitely get rid of when I am taking the actual photos. I was shining a flashlight on the objects I chose which consists of fuits, a metronome, tea set as well as a moon cake, just so I could figure out how I was going to create shadows. My brother helped hold up a black jacket since I didn't have dark cardboard and I placed pieces of beige coloured cloth over the table since I found out that the glass made really unpleasant reflections in the first few takes. There is a wide assortment of colour from the objects which I am happy with and I am satisfied with the placement of the objects.

These are the things i will be incorporating in my Chiaroscuro based image; a vase of nearly dead flowers, a candle and clear-teapot. I have chosen these items for specific reasons being that the vase of dead flowers, gave a droopy sense to the setup, the candle to add a lighting source and the teapot i thought it would look cool when lighting is shone through and create reflections. As for the background, I will be using a more plain dark background to accentuate the dark ambience and ensure the subjects are dramatised with my choice of lighting.

These are the items I'm planning on including in my Chiaroscuro project, although I'm not sure if it is too scattered or not. I have included brighter tones such as pink, orange and red and have slightly edited the photo to have more saturation and shadow. My light source comes from the window seen in the mirror, candles and a phone flashlight I had my brother hold. My background consists of a white wall and a tinted mirror as I thought the dark tint would create a dark effect. However I'm concerned that there isn't enough contrast between the chiaro and scuro (light and dark.) In particular I'm not sure if my photo has enough shadows.

This is a vague set up that I have in mind for my Chiaroscuro image. I haven't yet decided or arranged which fruits I plan to use for my final product but I plan to include the both the flowers and fruit for a variety of heights in the image. I'm using the light from an altar in my house (I've checked to make sure it's not offensive in any way) as I thought the red light gave off an interesting warmth to the image and I don't really have any candles. I'm still experimenting with which angles I want the image to be at along with whether my image will be portrait or landscape. I'm also planning to wait a couple more hours for when it gets dimmer in my house in order for the chiaro and scuro to be more contrasting.

I wanted to create a pink and white theme for this chiaroscuro image. Initially I was going to use the salt lamp as lighting hoping it would create a soft orange glow. But it wasn’t bright enough so I decided to use it as prop within the image. But later on I might try in a darker setting to see if the orange glow can add to the aesthetic rose gold colour theme. I couldn’t find any aesthetically pleasuring fruits but I might try to use some leaves to add a sort of border to the group of objects. I will also try to find a setting with a darker background to contrast the soft coloured objects.

These are some items I am planning to incorporate in my still life photograph. I have used the window on the right as a light source, which was able to form a few shadows. I have included candles in my photograph to create shadow between the objects. However, I am still experimenting with chiaroscuro. I would like for my image to have more shadow and contrast, so I might take my image later at night and find more alternative light sources. This is the set up for my still life photograph that will be taken shortly. I've utilised orchids and fruits to have different pops of colour. My light will either be a torch or a candle, from behind a corner to give the chiaroscuro effect of light and dark. Black objects such as books, clothing and more have been used as a backdrop. I will close all the blinds to create a dark environment for the photograph. I would like to play around with the background, perhaps adding a vase behind to enhance the atmosphere (not so bland).

This is one of the photos I might use for my project. The items I used in this photo are some fruits, a plant and a coral decoration?. This is the set up I have in mind for my photograph. I’ve gone with quite a neutral colour palette but I’be broken the conformity with the addition of greenery and a few brightly coloured fruits. I feel as though the arrangement isn’t as cohesive as I would like so as the sunlight starts coming through the window adjacent to the set up, I’ll decide if i want to remove the left portion and just keep the fruit bowl. I will most likely be using this blind I have in my laundry room, that when adjusted correctly, allows multiple rays of light to filter through. I am considering using a fruit basket, but I think it would look rather interesting with the items already in the laundry, like some towels, cleaning brushes, cleaning solutions, and a running tap with foam and bubbles in the basin of the sink. Hopefully there will be dust particles flying in the rays (there usually are) so that I can add a bit of extra movement to the photo.

This is one of the images i have done in my photoshoot. I was going for the perfume commercial vibe were they make the perfume the subject of the image. I did my image in the closet where it was fairly dark, however, the walls were white so i used a black scarf as my background and flooring. I used a few shells, ceramic tiny birds and a diamond shaped perfume. i am doing a tenebrism style for my Chiaroscuro. i want to have my photos zoomed in and landscape. for my lighting i used my computer and searched up "LED light flashes" and selected a video so that my lighting would be coloured and would bring a special effect to the photo. I will also be doing another photoshoot but this time with other items and a white or yellow lighting.

I used my dining table chair and my living room curtains for a dark background. I used an antique teapot and it's two cups. I placed one cup to look like as if the teapot is about to/has already poured some tea in, for the other cup i laid it flat and put some pebble coming out of it. I then got a gold plate and filled it with fruit. To finalise my setting I added multiple sizes of acorns around my setup for a final touch. For lighting I used my kitchen island pendant lights and I dimmed my downlights; this way they both provided subtle light.

I have used these items and tools in my captured photos. I've utilised a small cabinet and a black panel. An assortment of fruits and props elevating them. Some candles and a torch as an artificial light source to create the chiaroscuro effect. I do this with closed translucent curtains to allow soft, natural light into the room.

These are some of the items I will possibly be including in my Chiaroscuro still-life image. I will definitely incorporate a fruit basket but I am still experimenting with the other decorative items to see which combination of items work together the best. I like the look of a wooden table for the items to be positioned upon because it gives an antiquated appearance that is reminiscent of a Chiaroscuro image. I will take my photo during the evening as I hope the dimmer light will create shadows and a sense of 'drama' that really enhances the ambience of the image.

This is my progress so far with editing my still life photo. I played around with finding ways to add contrast to my image, and further creating chiaroscuro. To do this, I recalled the use of 'Curves' in our past projects. Although you can't see the curve pattern I settled on (I merged the visible layers), it helped with illuminating the top right corner. However, I'm not sure whether or not experimenting with 'Curves' over saturated my image. To try and get rid of the orange tones, I changed the type of layer to 'Luminosity' from 'Normal'; but, in turn, I found that I disliked the overall grey tones that this new filter created. Currently, I am sticking with the 'Normal' layer format and will experiment more to find a way in which I can lessen the warm tones. I also used the 'Blur' tool to allow the hourglass to become the main focus of the image. I blurred the sharp lines of the plant in the background, as well as the the statue of the Eiffel Tower.

I used a new tool called the lighting tool, where i angled the lighting to the angle i wanted and changed the colour of the lighting from the yellow lighting created by a candle to a white clear lighting

I played with different tools to highlight the shadows and add contrast. I used the curves tool that we have also used in our other projects. The light source was coming from the left so I wanted to highlight the shadows that were mainly on the right surrounding the objects. I found that the contrast in shadows was most apparent in the vase on the left, so I wanted to really highlight that too. I also took some more photos of my objects and played with the placement but I ultimately decided on the first arrangement that I had.

I played around with my image by looking for different textures to use and place in the background to give the image a more rusted and old look that I was going for. I ended up finding a perfect image and added that into the background using the same techniques we used when we were adding a flower over the top of our self-portrait images earlier in term 3. I also played around with the saturation and levels of colour in the image as at some points the red of the apple was too saturated but the image itself was not saturated enough. This did bring up a bit of a challenge as it was difficult to find the right balance between the two but I did some playing around and found some other tools to experiment with which then ended up helping me fix the problem. Then I also adjusted the highlights as the image was a good range of dark but I felt more light could be expressed through the tea cup so I altered the image to make that possible. I am now at a point where I am pretty happy with my image, I may change a few little tweaks or maybe add more texture into the background but overall I am pretty happy with what I have produced.

this is my progress so far with me experimenting with different tools. First I thought that the candles in my picture are a little over-exposed so I tried to tone it down a bit with 'Brightness/Contrast'. Later, I felt like the casted shadows were still a bit too bright so I used 'Curves' to make the shadows a bit darker and the light on the wooden mannequin a bit brighter. However I now feel like my picture is way too dark so I'm going to try make it a bit brighter.

I played around with different tools on Adobe Photoshop to add contrast to my photo. I used curves and I also adjusted the brightness and contrast to make the dark and light come together a little more. I put a torch in front when I took the photo which makes the light focus in one area so I'm using to try make it a little darker. Right now, my photo looks really gloomy which is completely opposite to how I intended it to be, so I will keep trying to experiment with the photo and make the light from the torch less obvious as well as keeping my photo light. I would also like the chess board at the back to be brighter because it is barely visible.

I played with a lot today. The very first thing I did was using the quick select tool, I selected my background. From there I used the solid colour layer and applied a dark brown to it. After which, I overlayed that layer over the original, successfully giving the background a darker and more ethereal look. I also added - using the rectangle tool - a line down where the two walls/ books meet, which had been covered by the solid colour layer. Adding the rectangle gave it that 3D effect that was lost originally. I added an adjustment layer for curves, and fiddled with that for a while. After which I added layers of brightness and vibrance; all three put together (curves, vibrance and brightness) made a beautiful red light from the apple mix with the already present lights on the base.

This is my progress so far with my experimentation of different tools on Adobe Photoshop done on my Chiaroscuro still-life image. I felt that the original image I was working with was slightly too light so I added a new layer and used the curves tool to adjust the darkness and create a clearer contrast between the light and dark areas. This also made the colours in the spotlight more vivid and bold, which I think adds a good amount of interest to the picture. Additionally, I added a vignette around the edges as I hoped to not only pull viewers' eyes towards the items in the spotlight rather than having a white wall take up too much space and attention, but also to enhance the ambience and heighten the sense of 'drama' within the image.

Here is my progress so far with playing around with the variety of tools on Photoshop. I first used the 'levels' tool to adjust the brightness intensity of the photograph. I thought the original image was too dimly lit so I made some changes. Afterwards, I recalled he colour balance tool to add different hues to make things more interesting. Then, I modified the hue and saturation just right. Lastly, I changed the brightness and contrast to make sure the chiaroscuro effect is exemplified.

I mainly experimented with all the filters and adjusting the contrast, vibrance, saturation and offset of the image. I wanted the colours of the apples stand out since they were a bold red and I thought it would further enhance the tenebrism I was going for. I wanted the image to have a warm tone so I overlayed it with an orange photo filter and adjusted the density of it so you could just see a hint of orange from the beige cloths. The feeling I am aiming for with this image is a vintage tranditional effect, I am going to continue playing with the effects and layers and see what I can come up with.

This is the progress I've made on my still life image. I mainly wanted to adjust the lighting because in the original image I only had one light source and I think the image would benefit with a bit of brightness. Using photoshop, I played around with brightness, contrast, vibrance, saturation, shadow and highlights. I tried to manipulate the image as much as possible while still keeping neutral/warm tone throughout the piece. I think the image looks much better after playing around with it. The colours of the fruit pop out more and the whole image is a lot brighter. I think the amount of highlights compliments the shadows well and it's a balanced photo.

I have been experimenting with certain tools that will create contrast between the light and dark within my image. I have used the curves tool to create more darkness and bring out the warm orange tones from the light source. I have played with various filters and layers, but discovered that it made the image quite washed out. I am still experimenting to find new techniques to create a dramatic contrast between the light and shadows.

This is the progress that I have made so far experimenting with the different tools on Photoshop. Currently, I'm experimenting with the contrast of lights and darks in the image using the curves function as I felt like the original photograph didn't have enough contrast between the two. I'm still trying to find different tools that I might possibly use to edit my image as currently I feel like although the contrast is more evident using the curves tool, the bottom section of the image is now too dark and some details aren't visible, such as the grapes.

I've been playing around with many different tools to use for my photo and this is my progress so far. I've mainly experimented with the layers to adjust the contrast of my image and change what it looks like. I used some tools that we've used for our previous projects such as the curve tool and some new ones like using a variety of layers to change the brightness, hue, saturation, lighting, vibrance and exposure of my image. While experimenting with my photograph on PS, I used colour balance, brightness/contrast and the brush tool. The colour balance was used to slightly change the overall hue of the image to what I thought suited it better, while the brightness/contrast was used to bring out the chiaro and scuro more. The brush tool use then used to cover some holes in my black backdrop which looked odd. I attempting to incorporate other techniques from previous classes but as of right now, none fit with photograph.

I have been experimenting with different tools to see what would match with my photo and be most effective in creating dark and light within my image. I played with the curves tool, hues and saturation, colour balance, vibrance, exposure and levels tool. I'm not very happy with my progress so far as many of the tools make my photo very washed out or too bright. I will continue to experiment to further modify my photo until I am satisfied. I've also added film grain but I'm not sure how I feel about that.

This is the progress i have made on my chiaroscuro image so far. I have been experimenting with various tools all with two main purposes; making the photo look more painting like and to emphasise the shadows in my photo. One of the tools i have implemented was the the "shadows and highlights" in adjustments, this really helped me accentuate the shadows that wasn't visible at first and dramatises the lighting. To bring in a more painting look, i used the curves layer which allowed me to tone down the realistic features.

I've been trying to experiment with different object for the images and i ended up choosing a different collection of objects and a different arrangement than i has originally planned out. i also changed the lighting i used and instead of keeping the white light i used a salt lamp to give the image an orange glow. I played around with the exposure and brightness as well as the curves tool. afterwards i used the hue/saturation tool to try and change the hue's of the red and green colours within my image. i ended up cropping out the books on the side in my new image to make the image less chaotic and more simple.

This is the progress i've made so far on the editing stage of my chiaroscuro image. I have also used the shadows/highlights tool to help emphasise the light which is cast in the middle of my image. Today, I played around with solarising this image. Due to chiaroscuro having dramatic contrasts between light and dark, I thought it would be interesting to apply the solarising process to the picture. I forgot to change it to black and white before solarising so it did not end up looking like the image that I produced with this technique last term, but I like how it turned out.

Today i played around with different tools to change my image. I applied the solarisation process without the black and white, changed the hue/saturation to make the reds stand out and be bold and i also changed the brightness/contrast, i made it brighter and the contrast higher so it created a black frame around the flowers and perfume.

This is my progress on editing my Chiaroscuro image. I've been trying to tone down the torch light by playing around with the colour and adding a yellow glow to it. Looking back, I think I should've taken the picture with a natural light because I took the photo with a torch and the light was concentrated in only one area. For the black and white solarisation image, I chose to do it of the greenery outside. Reflecting back, it was probably not the best choice as all the tedious details made it more difficult which is why I opted to make it considerably more dull than standard solarisation images.
