Robert Hooke then studied fossilized wood and found ancient cells. He discovered that fossils had once been living creatures that once existed and don’t anymore.

He put the foundation of plant anatomy and also discovered blood cells. On top of that he found microscopic nematodes which are like little worms. He did this by using a microscope that he himself invented in 1668. It was called the Microscope of Anton Van Leeuwenhoek. He discovered bacteria.

Matthias Schleiden was a German botnaist who was actually the co-founder of cell theory. He studied microscopic plant structure. In his studies he observed that the different parts of the plant’s organism are comprised of cells or derivivatoves of cells. Research done in the 1830’s

Theodor Shchwann’s story is similar to Schleiden’s . In 1838 Schwann learned all about Schleiden’s research and started continuing it. He also transferred the research over to animals where he then was able to confirm that cells were real, and also confirmed that human and animal tissues all start from a cell.

These guys are known for inventing the compound optical microscope. They made it in the 1950’s, this was a huge deal. It was a large contribution to the Cell Theory, because it made it easier and more practical to observe cells. They also declared that the cell was basically the building block of all plant life.
