That some may have a stronger negative view than others.

CUTTING - a non-religious neutral term that explains what the act is.
MUTILATION - may suggest that these people view this practice as barbaric or unnatural.
MODIFICATION - could be a more scientific term.
TORTURE - same reason as mutilation but perhaps more aggressive. Perhaps used as a term use to deterent others
OPERATIONS - a more respectful neutral term.
