He was trained at the Signal School at the Naval Armory in Chicago and was a Signalman First Class aboard the USS Milwaukee, the USS Howard and the USS Hamilton. He served honorably and courageously and was awarded the American Theater and American Defense Medals, the European and Middle Eastern Theater Medal with 1 star, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with 7 stars, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 stars. Harold B. Stark, commander US naval forces in Europe, helping to plan the Invasion at Normandy.
