Rock music dominates most of the popular music charts. Heading into the late 60s, hippie music starts to enter into the mix. The U.K. provided the USA with some of the most popular groups ever. This includes the Beatles and Rolling Stones. Other artist include David Bowie, Bob Dylan. A major event in the 60s was Woodstock. It was one of the first big outdoor concerts, attracting over 500,000 to Bethel NY.

Popular songs
I want you back-Jackson 5
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=h-t31Ahc5nw
Gimme shelter-Rolling Stones
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LDxpdFKuGb4
Let it be-Beatles
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rsxUDjfhj5Y

1960's Election: Although Richard Nixon won more states (26) than John F Kennedy (22), Kennedy won more electoral votes, and only won by .2% of total votes. This was one of the closest elections in American history. Then, in 1963, when Kennedy had been in office for over two years, he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald. Kennedy was said to have been campaigning for the next election when it happened. There are many conspiracies over who actually killed Kennedy and why.
In the 1964 Election, Lyndon B Johnson beat Barry Goldwater by a landslide, receiving 434 more electoral college votes than Goldwater. Once Johnson was in office, he began pushing for civil rights and the idea that America should become a "Great Society". He wanted Americans to have access to better education and Medicare, and to eliminate poverty. In the 1960's, the Vietnam War enraged Americans. Teens were drafted into war were mostly poor, which made it even more controversial. Civil Rights was also a big movement, and in 1964, LBJ passed the Civil Rights Act, prohibiting whites from discriminating African Americans publicly.

1) The economy in the early 1960's was slow and stagnant, and a stock market crash in 1962 did even more damage. However, Kennedy's tax cuts in response to the crash and the increased demand for production as we prepared for war are both credited with stimulating economic growth, and the economy grew steadily through the end of the decade

2) The unemployment rate started at 7%, though toward the end of the decade it had dropped slightly to around 4%.

3) There were no major shortages during the 1960's

4) The tax rate was relatively high early in the decade, although the Kennedy-Johnson tax cuts reduced these rates significantly
