At this point questions started to pop in my mind as to how this well-defined research process would be relevant to my life as a student and an employee. Looking back a bit I realized that without prior knowledge of the steps involved in research I had done some of this when deciding to go back to school to earn my degree. Obviously I had to first identify the need I had to further my education, professional advancement and self-accomplishment, and then inquiry and investigate about the different educational choices, in term of which online university to choose from. I can now look back and realize that it was not an easy decision and a lot of thought, energy and time had to be invested before I chose UWI as my best option. Would I had been able to do all of this without doing some type of research? Obviously not. 

As I start to move along in this course am starting to realize and appreciate the importance that research has in all aspects of our lives. And as a student of this course I am therefore committed in ensuring that my ultimate goal, achieving my degree, is obtained with the help of all the material that will be shared in this course.

The importance of effectively communicating information, be it written or orally, is what I gather as being a crucial aspect of research and as such careful consideration must be given when undertaking these steps in order to have a better chance of successfully achieving the research objectives. The research proposal deals with the ability to convince the research sponsors about the importance of conducting the research and by extension being able to demonstrate that you are the best person for the job. Consideration must be given to the structure in which the proposal is written by being able to demonstrate in a very concise manner the advantages of conducting the research. Once approval has been granted the actual work of the research takes place where data is collected, analyzed and presented in the form of a research report and the last step deals with being able to orally present the research results. 

Once again I was force to pause and asked myself about the relevance and practicality of this processes in everyday life and I was not able to disagree with the information presented. I am also able to see the way in which these units keep building in previous knowledge thus reinforcing the importance that research has in all facets of our lives. I am amazed to see how the course keeps progressing and I am eager to see what or how I will be once the course is completed.

What method or methods to use, how the data will be gathered, analyzed and presented. 

After listening to this week’s tutor Bbc session and reading the unit’s material I was able to see how everything is starting to fall into place as it relates to the research proposal assignment. As mentioned in a previous reflection the course keeps building on previous units work and things are getting a bit clearer for me. Obviously there is a lot to do but am now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. 

I nevertheless need to become more disciplined and focus as many deadlines are fast approaching in the next few weeks and stress and anxiety are starting to build up as well.

The different types of data along with their advantages and dis advantages, the different data collections methods and the preparation and management of the field process were all covered in the unit. This information has come so in time as the deadlines for different assignments are fast approaching. 

At this point am feeling extremely overwhelmed as the demands for this course are extremely high. I am nevertheless trying to cope with all the demands while keeping on top of the other courses am also taking. I do believe that the knowledge am gaining is also helping me with my other courses and for that I am extremely grateful. There are times when I feel there is no enough time in the clock but when am able to submit an assignment I feel a sense of relief and accomplishment. I do hope to successfully complete this course and to pass it with an excellent grade.

These tools are definitely essential steps to be taken if the information presented will be of any use to those interested. Tutorials and video presentations were watched in order to gain some basic knowledge about the topics. As we are coming near the end of the semester everything seems extremely urgent and important. Deadlines are fast approaching and stress levels are up to the roof. This research step is extremely important as the questionnaire is the instrument used to collect data from respondents and the quality of the data obtained can be directly tied to the quality of questions that are asked. Knowing how to structure and present questions in a questionnaire format is crucial to the success of any research. Communication media was also discussed as this is the mode by which questionnaires are administered and obviously depending on the mode used the questions should be structured to fit the mode in order to minimize errors. As we all know data can be either quantitative or qualitative and as such the analysis for both of them requires different approaches. Nowadays however there are computer programs which can assist with the sorting and comparison of information however the interpretation and conclusions must be done by the researcher. As we are in the last unit of this course, I am looking back and must admit that everything that was covered during the semester does not only apply to this course but obviously direct relationships exist with other courses and life in a whole. I do believe however that in some instances the deadlines for assignments and the flow of the units was not in sync and as such grades could not be maximized.
