Today,we summarized the chapter in details, discussed:the context and setting of the story,the themes portrayed in the story,character and characterisation and the language used.
In the themes,I found out that the major themes portrayed in chapter one are:(a)individual vs community (b)Tradition (c)unity and division

This week,we studied stylistic devices. Some of the stylistic devices include:
1.Hyperbole-an exaggeration to make a point,often in a humorous way. 
2.Alliteration-the repetition of first letters(or sounds)in words that came close together in a phrase or sentence, typically consonants. 
3. Onomatopoeia- the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named. 
4. Parallelism- aligning the arrangemen  of words or sentences in similar ways.
5. Assonance- use of word  that have the same or very similar vowel sounds  near one another etc.
We also read and identified some of the stylistic devices present in the river between novel.Some of the stylistic devices present in the novel include:
1.Foreshadowing-when muthoni's barrel falls and rolls from the hill back to the river.And this happens to be a bad omen after she told her sister she wanted to be circumcised. 
2.Allusion-In the book,livingstone head missionary is an allusion to the missionary David livingstone who explored Africa.
