While demanding a stop to the construction of the youth jail, the protesters urged the government and those associated with the officials to stop focusing on the construction of prisons and instead invest in community-based solutions that benefit the affected youth. The disorderly essence of the action, as well as the chained protesters, drew massive media attention to the issue, pushing widespread discussion and debate on the costly youth jail and the movement to end it.  The protesters who were involved considered the action to be highly successful.

People gathered all over the states to show solidarity and urge the government to end anti-Asian crimes and provide security for the Asian American communities. This rally was organized in New York City after multiple cases of violence against Asian communities took headlines on social media. We can see members of the Asian communities begging for security and the government to take initiative to end violence against Asian Americans.

            The image shows protesters drawn from various parts of the capital over the death of George Floyd. The nature of George Floyd attracted protests nationwide and globally through social media platforms. The peaceful protests began with bent knees, raised fists, and please. The protesters were under the social movement of “Black Lives Matter” formed to champion equality in America and stop police brutality. I found this image compelling because it addressed one of the most frightening events that shocked the country barely a month ago. From the picture, both whites and blacks march in solidarity for a course. A course that is determined to bring changes in how some races are viewed in American society. Thus, I used the image because it represents a true social movement.

I found this image compelling first because it is something happening in my native country. Second, it shows how the government do not support protests in Colombia and try to make them a revolt. Since the #MeToo movement began, elected officials passed over 261 laws addressing topics of the movement - this is an additional 23 laws approved from the year prior when Harvey Weinstein accusations surfaced, and the movement took off encouraging other women to come forward. It will change the hearts of many and the future generations to come will not see color but will see humans and will see them all equal. I was very moved by this image, they did what a lot of people including myself want to and should have done.

In this picture women including little girls are wearing hijabs. In Iran, it is mandatory that women and girls are to wear a hijab at all times, or face punishment. Even in sports teams women must wear a hijab. In response to the strict rules by the Islamic Government, a Facebook page, named My Stealthy Freedom, was created by Iranian Journalist and Activist Masih Alinejad in 2014. Alinejad created this page and encourages Iranian women to take photos of themselves or videos taking their hijabs off their heads. This is despite the government threatening these women of facing ten years for their offense.

This protest was about equality regardless of whether you're documented or not. Now by equality I mean if you're not a citizen in the US, you should be able to have healthcare even if you're not from here. What caused this movement was a 10-year-old girl who needed surgery but was detained by immigration with her mom because they were undocumented. This storyline ended up getting attention from the media and many argued that it's unfair because of how immigrants get treated and how if they wanted to keep getting mistreated they would've stayed back where they were originally from with all their struggles.

Amongst other things the people really wanted to highlight economic inequalities, new federal job programs, and a raise in the minimum wage. Thousands of students in Tirana boycotted classes and marched from their faculties to the ministry building, urging the ministry to cut tuition fees and overturn the government's decision to pay for exams, along with other demands such as better living conditions in dormitories and greater involvement of students in the decision-making process. It was the largest protest the country had seen in years.  Students from public universities in other cities such as Durrës, Shkodra, Elbasan, and Korça joined student protests that began in Tirana by boycotting lectures and gathering in the streets.

Thousands of Russians fled the streets to protest Putin, who is sparking potential of World War 3. Putin and the Russian Army are stone cold. They commit mass genocide on civilians, targeting schools with children in them, and even hospitals. This is extremely inhumane and a lot of the people in Russia do not support Putin's actions whatsoever. The Russo-Ukrainian War begun in February 2014, and recently steeply escalated on February 24th, 2022. In the picture above, you can see a young Russian man holding up a sign that says "We're Russians, we're ashamed, we don't support it." To the left we see an image of what appears to be a mix of Hitler and Putin. They are comparing Putin to Hitler, who's extremely inhumane acts sparked World War 2. This is so risky yet brave for the people of Russia, as Putin is a very frightening dictator and protestors are being put in jail and tortured for going against Putin's beliefs.

I understand and stand for this as well this image post is powerful to me. Everyone should be treated equally regardless of the typr of work, race ect no discrimination should be allowed, but we live in a world that is based off of much more.

The hopelessness of girls whose education is interrupted is also increasing in the country. Afghanistan Deputy Education Minister Abdul Hakim Hemat told the BBC that the ban on secondary education for girls continues.

"Not being able to read is like a death sentence," says 15-year-old Meena. She says that since her school in Bedahshan closed, she and her friends have been confused. Laila is 16 years old, who says "We have nothing to do but housework". His school in the city of Tahar was closed the day the Taliban came to power in August.

Afghan authorities had previously avoided describing the exclusion of girls from school as a direct ban. However, Abdul Hakim Hemat said that girls will not be able to go to secondary and high school until the resolutions to be taken in the new year are announced. Hemat, who is acting as Afghanistan's Deputy Minister of Education, stated that the inability of girls to continue their secondary education is a temporary situation that may change when new policies are determined. Hemat also stressed that girls should be separated from boys' classes so that they can study in a "safe environment". The Taliban has repeatedly stated that they will respect women's rights. However, the UN report stated that discrimination against women in Afghanistan has begun to normalize in all aspects of life. In the report, it was noted that families also restricted their own movements. Even before the Taliban came to power, Afghanistan was considered among the countries where women's rights were the worst.

1st of December, 1955. Rosa Parks stood up for her beliefs, or rather, sat down for her beliefs. Parks, an African American woman, opted to ride the bus home from work on the evening of December 1, 1955. She was jailed for defying an Alabama statute requiring black people to cede seats to white people when the bus was full because she sat down and refused to give up her seat to a white passenger. (Black passengers had to sit in the back of the bus as well.) Her detention provoked a 381-day bus strike in Montgomery. It also resulted in a Supreme Court ruling in 1956 prohibiting segregation on public transportation.

On October 9, 2012, Malala Yousafzai was attacked by the Taliban as she was returning home from school with her friends and received worldwide condemnation. In 2013 Malala and her father co-founded the Malala fund which was to bring awareness to the social and economic impact of girls' education and to empower change. She was the young to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

The movement I chose was the strike on climate change. Climate change is very real and some people seem to forget that. People all over the world protest and fight to try to make a change to save and protect the world we all live on. This photo really stood out to me because its a photo of a check on fire. That money could be out towards ways to help make the world a better place but because of the way the world is now a days it has been caught on fire.

Its members were known for being upfront and outspoken when they perceived injustice. They confronted politicians, protected black citizens, and challenged the authority of the police. They had "survival programs," which were community service programs that provided food, clothing, and transportation, especially for black communities, but they helped many. The programs helped transform today's public education and health care systems. Even though they challenged and stood up to police brutality and provided community help (education, transportation assistance, tuberculosis testing, and provided shoes to the poor), governmental bodies considered the Black Panther Party to be an enemy of the U.S government.

This photo is about a walkout of high school and middle school students in Salt Lake City, to protest against the Utah Legislatures that banning  transgender girls to play girls sport in school. The protest was under a torrential rain and  the slogans was “let them play” and “Trans rights are human rights.”This event occurred on Wednesday, April, 06, 22. This protest was embraced by a 13 years old Caroline  that said,
“ I feel embarrassed for the Legislature, because they’re adults ... and I think that us being kids is what makes it so much more powerful, because we’re showing that we are more supportive than the people that are supposed to be supporting us.”

The protest was a series of demonstrations that took place in Reykjavik, Iceland, on October 25 and 26, 2008. People protested outside the Icelandic Parliament Building and demanded that the government resign. This picture is a part of a video. The video has many pictures like this one, however I chose this one because it shows people protesting in Iceland. It shows a press photographer trying to get the best shots he can and then protesters trying to make their voices heard. They were upset about the economy and how their country was going to be affected by what was happening around the world in 2008. This image shows our connection through protesting, along with our differences in how we do things in different countries.

I chose this picture because it shows the protests throughout Iceland. This is an example of how protests can have a huge impact in different parts of the world. The most important part is to see protesters that are protesting together and their dedication to the cause. People were risking their lives, trying to make their voices heard. It is admirable that they took time out of their lives, and all in the name of a change they so desperately wanted.

 

The most interesting thing about this picture is how different it is in comparison to other pictures of protests. It shows that people took time out of their day and went out in the streets to protest. They were not afraid to make their voice heard, they wanted change and they were willing to do whatever they could to get it. The people are all coming together from all different walks of life. This shows that people want a better life for them and future generations.

This picture shows that people want to make a difference. They are using their voice and making sure they are heard. This is a form of social change because people are making themselves known and trying to make a statement at the same time. People took time out to protest, they wanted something different and they were taking things into their own hands. They were not going to sit back and let things happen without trying to make some changes. The picture shows the protest was peaceful showing them all coming together out of interest of wanting a change in their country.

Started in the 1960's, this social movement focused on women's legal rights to politics, work, and sexuality. Right after the World War II, women's roles changed in their household and jobs. Jobs were no longer based on one's physical strength. These women rallied up and mainly fought for employment discrimination, maternity leave rights, child-care and tax deductions for child-care expenses, equal education, and much more. This movement means a lot to me because without women having a say in law making, and voting who would protect us and speak for us women when needed? It also means we have a little independence in the real world and not having to depend on men. I can imagine a lot of women in older generations staying in an unhappy marriages for the sake of being financially maintained by their husbands.

Breonna Taylor’s mother is in the middle, holding the Breonna sign leading the march. This March was held also to demand for racial justice. For those who aren’t aware, 26 year old Breonna Taylor was killed by policemen in her apartment. About 7 policemen barged into her apartment to try and find someone who was involved in drug dealing firing shots that killed Breonna. Then shortly after, the police realized that the whole thing was a misunderstanding. Breonna and her boyfriend who was with her in the house that night have no criminal record and they found zero evidence of drugs in the apartment. I chose this picture because it represents a group of people standing for something that unfortunately this country is still experiencing. On November of 2016, Rosello had a landslide victory over his four opponents for the governance of Puerto Rico. With the support of forty-one percent of the island’s voters he was entrusted with the task of leading the commonwealth and its people. Sadly, Rosello’s four year term did not come to completion, as he was forced by the People of Puerto Rico to resign from his position as governor just a little over a year before the end of his mandate. On July 9th, 2019 a series of chats in which the governor had explicit participation, were made public. Countless of texts that would become the beginning of the end of Rosello’s term. Aside from the derogatory comments in which Hurricane Maria victims were made fun of, women in politics belittled, name called and insulted, Ricky Rosello also talked about plans to discredit the media, sabotage political opponents and disclosed confidential information with non members of his cabinet or Puertorican politics for that matter. During the three day protest that unfortunately turned into night riots, allegedly provoked by the police and individuals paid by the government. The people of Puerto Rico demanded his resignation as the eyes of the world watched every televised second. Until the night of July 24th, 2019 when Ricardo Rosello Nevárez, Puerto Rico’s second youngest governor; became the first to be displaced by the people. In a true lesson to the world that the people are the true power behind the nations.
