This quickly turned into a cyclone category and was named Yasi on the 30th. On the next day it became a category 2 and then a category 3 cyclone. On the first of February it enriched to category 4 and started heading to North Queensland. Cyclone Yasi hit the coast as a category 5 cyclone. Also a lot Chemicals and debris were washed away into the Ocean making the ocean very polluted. The rainforest was also badly impacted. The tropical trees were stripped apart and local species like the Wallabies and Cassowaries population decreased . People were given food, water and help to reconstruct their lives. After the assisting with the situation Red Cross worked with the Queensland government to try and prepare for future storms in a more efficient way. 

Now I will talk about the Government. The government responded better to cyclone Yasi than to cyclone Larry ( a cyclone 2 years before). A lot less people slept in evacuation centres and there was only 1 fatality. Compared to Cyclone Larry where there were 37 fatalities. Families where separated and homes where lost. This caused a lot of havoc and homelessness with a lot of people being injured and having nowhere to go. The second negative social impact was that hundreds of people where out of work and lost their jobs. From mechanics to hotel managers lots of people's incomes stopped and this affected the local state and national community. The last social effect and the only positive one was that the government learn't how to better prepare for cyclones in the future.
