The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted lives all around the world. As people across the Philippines practice social distancing to help slow the spread of COVID-19, many businesses have temporarily shuttered and the justice system has ground to a halt in many parts of the country.

It’s very easy to feel lost during a global pandemic. If anything, with the state of the world, it may be the most human thing to feel. And while you shouldn’t make yourself feel bad about feeling a certain way during the lockdown – because you are able to be safe in your own home – it’s integral we remember that hope is the utmost act of resistance.

It’s made us realize how constant we all were before. How taking pauses had become something to be ashamed of, until we were forced to take a step back. There have also been joyful lessons in between moments that have felt unfair.

Lockdown has made me more forgiving. You realize that everyone is panicking just as much as you are, if people are snippy piss you off, it’s made me think twice before I respond with negativity.

Sometimes you just want to be petty but when people are dying you realize that people don’t deserve it. Responding with kindness or not responding at all ends up being more productive. I’ve been more willing to let things go because of that.

It’s been weirdly liberating. It feels stupid to get pissed off that someone doesn’t do the dishes properly or that your friends are unusually needy when so many people are in pain and struggling and dying. It’s made me learn how to use my energy better and being more forgiving is definitely healthier and better.

This is so far the biggest lesson learned during the lockdown period. How naïve of us to forget the preciousness of the moment.

Have you ever thought of living the same moment twice but failed to? We are all so busy dwelling in our pasts and planning about our future that we actually fail to embrace the present moment.

This pandemic period taught me that the past is gone, we cannot change it and the future lay uncertain right in front of our eyes, this very moment is all that we have.
The joy and peace in being mindfully aware of the moment, of the things happening within us.

We aren't always in our high spirits or joyful. Being a human, we do feel many emotions and every day isn't the same. There are some terrible nights when we don't get sleep and are lost in our own thoughts.

And this is what being human actually means. It is all okay to admit that you're not okay and things are not going well. Instead of stuffing all those emotions within, let them flow out. Get yourself permission to accept that things may not be going as per your plan but there are better days ahead of you, there always is the shine. Do not be so hard on yourself, it's okay not to be okay.

"Being thankful never goes out of style."

These eight months of span made me really how truly blessed I was. There were people out there without homes, no clothing, or even had earth food. Amidst of this mess, I recalled my blessings and felt so grounded even in dark hours.

As a human, it's normal for us to take things for granted until life hits us hard enough to know its worth. We are all super blessed to be living, breathing, and surviving this whole situation.

This period taught me that my emotions were valid and that I was not alone. When we see Istaworthy pictures, perfect life in those squares, we freak out and start comparing ourselves with their luxurious lives. This makes us feel so insecure and terrible.

However, these eight months I really felt that we were all suffering through mental breakdowns, anxiety, that we were all so frustrated and stressed. This made me feel less lonely and helped me deal with those feelings better. The life-lesson learned during this pandemic could be terribly hard, but this was something I needed to remind myself. We were all together in this and we still are. I loved the community connection and how everyone was there for each other.
