The inspiration behind this piece came from the video we watched I really liked the look of the spirals and I decided to make it a bowl because I thought it would really show them well, my coils are showing on the outside but on the inside they are blended, I initially wasn't going to blend the inside but I didn't want my bowl to fall apart and I thought it would create a better structure for the piece, I did not blend the outside because like I said I really liked the look of the spirals and I wanted them to show. I used a regular glossy glaze I believe it was seagrass, I think the glaze enhanced the bowl and made it stand out, I love especially the inside. A problem I ran into was some cracking I solved it by putting on support clay and it worked very well, I really liked my coil but one thing I would change is the bottom I wish I had made my foot something different and maybe a little better.

I wanted to try and challenge myself with this piece, and try to create a spiral coil piece with a flare inward. It turned out okay, but ended up with a couple cracks on the surface. Overall I think I constructed the piece very well, but I am having second thoughts about my choice of glossy glaze. I chose to not blend out the coils, because it adds character to the pot and lets the spirals show, but it doesn't turn out so well with the metallic glossy glaze I used. Its not as shiny as I wanted it to be, and the glaze I used allowed some minor rough texture on the surface, which is not what I was shooting for. I ran into some blending problems on the inside, which I solved with adding extra supporting clay to hold the flared inward spirals, and if I could do one thing differently, I would have used a different type of glaze for my piece. But overall I think I did well.

My inspiration for this project was halloween because its my favorite holiday. I knew I wanted to do "Halloween colors" because they looked best on my coil piece. (black, purple, and green) I chose to blend my coils because I did not like how it looked when the coils were showing. A few problems happened while working on my piece, it started to become lopsided. I fixed this by adding and subtracting clay. If I were to do this again, I think overall i'd add more details. -Olivia

The inspiration for this coil piece is my mom wanted a new candy bowl and I decided on this green to match my house. I also wanted to replace my brothers from this class. The coils are showing in this piece. I thought the shape of them and how there arranged look good so I kept it unblended. I used underglaze for the bottom so it was colored, and I used glossy glaze in the inside and around it. I think the glaze enhanced my coil piece overall. I ran into the problem that my coils appeared uneven . So I decided to overlap the coils to have the thicker sides on top of the thinner sides of coils, to match thickness. I also just rerolled coils to make them more even too. If I did this piece over I would choose a a more interesting design.

The inspiration for this piece was a bowl but more unique because previously I broke one of our fruit bowls so I was trying to recreate it but with a special touch. In my piece I smoothed out the coils and carved designs for some texture. I did this because I like the thought of a design with the could but I’ve never seen this design with a coil piece so I decided to carve it. For this piece I just used clear glaze because I liked the color the terra-cotta clay fired with. I think the glaze enhanced the bowl by remaining the natural color by adding a little bit of shine. The biggest problem I came into was keeping the shape of the pot the first couple days while it was still super soft because it kept caving in. I solved this by using the paddles and storing news paper in it. If I could do this again I would want to make something funny for the holiday season.

I was inspired to make this piece due to the spirals making the piece look deep with thought but also makes the piece roll with each other with the one large coil on top making a good flow from top to bottom.I left my coils showing because I believe I did very good with rolling the coils and making them even across the whole piece. Also the coils are very classy in my opinion just showing what you can do with them and the different variations that can be put into the piece. The glaze I used was glossy glaze and I used a plain purple on the inside and on the outside I used a very intriguing purple with blue colors throughout.I made sure to get the chunkies in the glaze to get a good variation through the piece and really bring through the look of the coils in the piece.The regular glossy glaze enhances the piece and makes it look very nice as I used the rubber tip tools to make my coils more defined and pop out at a person if they look at the piece because their eyes would follow the piece as it sways with the top coil.Th only problem I had was making the coils in the beginning all even throughout but as Ms.White helped me on the first coil, but then I got it down by her teaching me to roll it all the way up the finger and down to the end of the palm, then placing the coil on the outside of the other coils to make it go outwards and also smoothing and fusing the insides I went.Lastly if I did this again I would make the piece larger as it was very fun after I got down making the coils, because the piece looked very nice in the end and the glossy glaze added the finishing touch to the piece and made it pop out with the variation that relied in the glossy glaze. All in all I had fun during the coil piece project and learned lots of new things with clay and how the new rubber tip tool really defined my piece.

my inspiration was just trying to make something that could be used and using the colors i like. I left the coils showing because i liked the look of unblended coils. On this pot i used the glossy glazes. i think the glaze enhances the look of the overall piece. The problems i ran into while making this pot was that it wanted to not be staright and getting the coils to stay on straight and look nice. If i could do this again i would probably work on making the coils a little bit closer to the same size and try and keep it straight and not lopsided.

my inspiration for this coils was supposed to have coils rings around it but later into it I made it smooth because I did not make the coils strait If I could change anything on it I would add more to it and make the details the the little balls but I didn't mind how they came out. I like it and it was a fun project.

My inspiration for this peice is a halloween pot that became alive. The coils are showing to give the pots eyes and mouth look more realistic and alive like im trying convey. I used purple under glaze for most of the pot and black underglaze for the eyes. I used clear glaze on top of the underglaze. The glaze made coil pots eyes look more like human eyes to look more real and the glaze also made it look more polished and finished. When I was putting this peice together the coils werent looking even and not smooth like i was wanting, I solved this problem after putting the pot all together I came in with a metal rib and made it smooth all around and the plastic rib all around to finish it to fix the problem i had before. If I was to do this again I would change something and that would be changing the wax placement and i would try harder to make it look more leveled on the pot.

My coil piece inspiration was a smoothed coil piece with circles on top painted with blues. I blended my coil piece because i think it makes a smoother look and glazes better. I used glossy glaze for my piece because it was the most convenient for my piece.

My insperation for this was to make a pot that I could put a flower in with a little bit of water because my mom likes flowers. I blended my coils out because personally I'm not a big fan of them. Uniquely I used glaze without underglaze because I thought the color of the clay naturally is very pretty. well a problem I ran into is that part of my scuplture didn't want to stay together and I solved it by drounding it in glaze hoping it would stick together in the kiln and it did! If I ever do a coil piece again I think I will make a smaller one to be honest.

the inspiration for my piece was to make a vase-like pot that was larger and to do one of the designs shown in the instructional videos. I decided to leave the coils showing because of the large size. It also makes the piece look more authentic in my opinion. I used regular glossy glaze. I poured the inside and simply painted the glaze on the outside with a brush. I think the pouring on the inside looks good but the rough exterior kind of shows through the glaze. I built the pot up a little too quickly because of time sake and it started to sag on one side. I tried to prop it up while it was drying to help compensate for that. If I were to make a coil piece again I think I would make it smaller so I could focus more on attention to detail.

My inspiration for my coil was to make a bowl or something me or my dad could eat cereal out of because we both rally love cereal and I told him I was going to make a bowl for my peice before I started. For my coil I decided to go straight to the clear glaze because I loved the natural color of the red clay, and I know the combination with the natural color and shiny clear glaze would look nice. If I had to do this peice again I think I would make mine much larger and maybe a different color. -Mason Wagner

The inspiration for my design was kind of just smoothed out coils but then some 'swirly' type coils at the top. in the end i just smoothed them all out and just carved the swirls in since i was running out of time. i used just the clear glaze because i liked the orange color alot and i think it makes the carving pop nicely. i didnt exactly run into any problems but i do wish i could have done my original idea without running out of time.

My inspiration for my piece was to add something like pencils, pens or anything in it. My coils are blended out because i wanted the challenge of blending the inside and outside of the piece. The glazes i used were cobalt and aquamarine i believe. With these glazes i put the cobalt on the inside and the aquamarine on the outside. Also, i really like the color combination with the dark in the inside and the bright color on the outside. I also think the color combination enhanced my piece because i think the colors go very well together. Some problems i ran into were that the coil sort of collapsed at the top on the longer sides so that why there is a little dip in the middle. Another challenge i overcame was blending the inside coil especially the ones that were on the top coils because the tool i used was big for the smaller opening at the top. If i could do this project again some things i would change would be that to add some twists or some of the circular coils and also i would change not to blend out the coils to see how many i did on the final product.

While creating this coil piece, I figured it would be a great idea to include a fall theme, so I chose to create a mummy out of this piece. I blended the coil pieces out and attached col like parts onto the outside to create the mummy look on the mug. I used a white underglaze which I knew wouldn't cover all the red clay going into it, but I still chose to paint the mummy white. I just wish it would've covered and coated it fully. I think adding white to it makes the red clay still pop and have color but its more of a settle look. The main issue I ran into, was towards the end my clay was becoming too dry and cracking. If I could fix some things, I would try to cover the red clay with more white, and also maybe add a handle to the mug. Overall, I like this piece.

my inspiration for the coil piece is kind of a basic vase, my mom really likes vases so i just thought making her another one word work, there are no coils showing, i blended them out because theres going to be water inside of it for the flowers and stuff, so i wanted to make sure there was no tiny holes or gaps where the water could spill out. i used the dutcg enamelwear

glaze, i like it a lot because the blue chunks in it and when it was fired it came out a slight pink color. i think the glaze helped my coil piece because i didnt like the orangish red when the coils were fired. i didnt really run into a lot of problems while working on my coil piece. im not sure if i would do anything different with my coil piece besides changing the shape of it, i think its basic but i like it

My inspiration for this piece was a Mexican pottery piece. The coils are not showing because I blended them. I used glossy glaze. I feel like the clear glaze took away some of that Mexican look. I ran into the problem that my piece was too heavy so it was tilting. I solved it by letting it dry for a couple of days and then continue to build it. If I could do it differently I would not use glossy glaze on all the piece.
