Welcome to the 2023-2024 Park Collegiate School Year! Our names are Mr. Cosentino, Ms. Lisa and Ms. John and we're so excited to be working with your young scholar(s), in my Global History Class this year! They will not only be  given  the tools to pass the NYS Regents at the end of the year, but skills that will aid them even after they leave my classroom in order to become

The following lays out what you and your  child should expect to see and lear this year, along with the content, policies, and expectations for the year.

Expectations
Students are not only expected to bring their notebooks to class everyday to take notes, they will also be expected to be respectful one another and be ready to think critically and discuss. Throughout the year, students will engage in projects and debates to answer serious historic questions that pertain to today.

Content
This is a year-long Global History class and will be based on the State of New York standards for Social Studies. Successful completion of this course is required for graduation including passing the  Global History and Geography Regents at the end of the year. At the end of each semester there will be a comprehensive exam or project comprising all of the subject matter covered in the course/semester.

The focus of our lessons will be to connect what has happened to what is happening now. Each unit will involve comparing how history effects the world today, and how we as citizen can better prepare for the future. My goal is to not only impart content knowledge but also skills in civics so they can become the best citizens they can be.

Grading

Students will be graded on the following:
1-     Exams/Projects - 35%.
2-     Quizzes - 20%.
3-     Classwork & Participation - 45%
(these percentages are subject to change during the course of the semester, based on performance.)

  • TRIPS: We plan on hosting a number of field trips this school year for the Sophomore class; including at least 1 field day, a Broadway show, a museum trip and community building trips.
  • MAP Diagnostic Testing:  All Sophomores will take the MAP diagnostic test this fall.

Together, we will study what matter is and the changes in matter. Throughout the year, we will discover what our world is made of, how it is put together, what happens when different parts of our world interact with each other, and why these things happen through various projects, labs, classwork, and assessments.

This course culminates in a State Regents exam on Friday, June 20th at 1:15 pm. Students must complete 25 labs (1200 minutes) in order to be allowed to sit for the Regents in June.
