My professional perspective is working as a school counselor on a high school campus. I have received my M.S. in Professional School Counseling and began my job shortly after. This Legal Guide Padlet is a resource for high school educators and staff to inform them of the laws and the importance of being above reproach with your actions. I chose this topic because there has been a rise in the number of cases and reports over the past few years. Informing staff and educators of the severity of these actions and the consequences for these will promote a more positive school environment.

Inappropriate teacher/student relationships remains a prevalent issue for educators across the nation. As an educator, we are held to a higher standard by those around us and are expected to withhold high moral character. When mixing others high standards of educators, with the educators who disobey the laws set forth by the state of Texas, it creates a bad reputation for the whole career field. Discussing this topic with educators will encourage them to think about their decisions and the repercussions it could effect for the rest of their life.

One thing that has been noted recently is the rise in cases reported over educators and sexual misconduct. The rise in cases will likely cause strife among those in the community. Educators should be cautious of the perception their actions may show to others and help hold their coworkers accountable to their actions.
