PROMPT #2: Think about your experience living in Kauai. Write about your experience living on the island. Does it match what is in the video/what tourists expect when they come here? Are there things that people do when they visit that are okay or not okay? What do you wish someone would know before they come here? Are there places you wish tourists would not go to?

I mostly seen north side of Kauaʻi. I never seen west side as much which made me sad a bit. They had like a married couple showing that Kauaʻi is like a honeymoon place. I would put all the hiking trails and views, the sunset also, and I would also show a family not only the couples, show some locals, and last of all I would show the west side. Yeah i definitely would if I could drive.

Prompt 2 My experience of living in Kaua'i has changed over the years since I was younger. Back then it was much free and safe to walk to school and home, but now with (too) many people and (tourist) here, it's not safe to walk freely. The experience here doesn't match the video at all because not everyday the water is crystal clear, beaches are clear and no rubbish. There are way more people here out there house than what they showed. The way tourist drive is upsetting because yes, they have a higher speed limit there on freeways, that they think they can tail and speed on us but us locals don't like that. Also, when we see their GPS's out while they drive reckless because, if you don't know how to drive here, please don't. They have a high nose attitude and think they are granted a free pass for everything they wanted here, but us locals don't like the fact they want to run everything, because our Queen before got overthrew by white people. I wish tourists knew how to have a common courtesy to blend in with the rest of us when they come here because when they come here, they love to be on the spot with all the attention once again! I wish they knew how to pick up their rubbish, and act normal here in the islands and not pilau. I wish tourists won't go hiking when it's rainy because a hiker always disappears when they disobey the order. I wish they wouldn't go to sacred places and linger/ walk over or on because us locals find that disrespectful. And I also wish tourists wouldn't bunch up close on the beach, we like as much space as we can get.

My experience living in Kauai because its my home my blood line is strong here. I have everything here my family friends pets a good life i wake up every morning drive to anahola river and set up my one man and just paddle for a few hours. Even tough its been cherreh theirs the tourist side of things got in a lot of heated arguments the past year but i cant complain. the things in the video show things that yeah we paddle we dance hula certain occasions. But its not an everyday thing for everyone. the things they do when there here on Kauai that is not OK is that they don´t listen to beach signs, litter, speeding down small village roads and thinking that there the kings and queens of the road. showing Shaka when they do something wrong or just in general saying mahalo and using Hawaiian language terms in the totally opposite and wrong way. Before they come to Kauai i wish they learned the real history of Hawaii not what america tells them what happened and that not everyone in fact no ones gonna be a nice guy and welcome them and how to show respect. places i wish tourist shouldn't go is anahola or anywhere some of the beaches that are no longer a secret.

The experience of living in Hawaii for me has been very beneficial. Living in Hawaii has taught and shown me things that I need to know at a very young age. I am so grateful for these Islands and the people that live here because to me they show me what life is all about. I really enjoyed the Kauai video because not only did it show the natural beauty of our island but it also showed our culture and the presence of family. To me, thats what Hawaii is all about, so I would say it is accurate in what tourists should expect. Of course there are local folkways that most tourists do not understand, but I believe that majority of the visitors that come here are not trying to be disrespectful to our culture but it may come across to some as discourteous. One thing I wish all tourists who visit to know is the true definitions of Aloha. If they can understand that and understand that this is how most locals live with much Aloha we can see a change in how not only they see us but how we see them as well.

They want the video to appeal to tourists and make them believe that Kauai is their sanctuary or playground. They mostly show the NaPali coast, golf courses, north shore beaches, and performances.
The experience living here on Kauai has some beautiful sight seeing experiences. But surprisingly they didn't really show none of the locals living on the island and how we keep this island as beautiful as it is. It does match the beauty and all but what it matters is the people's positive island vibes and culture that makes it something that you want to experience. But what isn't okay is trying to break that and turn it to something that we are not.

Living here has thought me many things like learning how to cook some ono food and also how to fish and provide for my families. What I think tourists should do before coming here is to learn about how we maintain this natural beauty on the island and admire the hard work us locals do.

The video doesn't show many "public" things like most beaches covered in people, and instead tries to paint Kauai as a sort of secluded, private getaway that exists as a sightseeing place, when it's really an island where countless people live their lives. I don't think I would make a video about it, not only because it isn't my thing, but also because I have only lived here for about six years, and I'm not fully apart of this culture. I don't think I could do it justice.

The video showcased tourist attractions such as beaches, hiking views, boat tours, hula shows and other beauties known to the island. I believe the video was meant for tourist as a "pamphlet" of what you could do or see when visiting the islands. What I have not seen in the video was homeless, trashed beaches, do not enter signs on beaches and hiking trails, and locals living their day to day life.IF I were to create a video on Kauai, it'd be highlighting everything I love about my home but also what tourism has done to it. Id start off with beautiful lands and views then buildings replacing those lands as to demonstrate what has occurred when more people start to live upon the islands. I would repeat that process throughout the video like sea life then manuar and what tourist sunscreen has done to the reefs. Though Kauai is beautiful, it should be kept that way and respected. I don't believe that the Hawaiian islands should be someones getaway spot but to be looked at as others homes.

Living here in Kauai is simple and living in a simple life is not a bad thing but for me, it's more peaceful. I love how Kauai has its own beauty. It has so much tourist spots that we're always wanting to go back.
When tourist come here, they want to explore the simple beauty of Kauai. I wish before tourist come here, they have the awareness and understand all the protocols here. Not only seeing our Island as just a vacation spot but they need to learn how to respect it!
In conclusion, the places tourist shouldn't go is "Queen's Bath". Yes, its beautiful but its one of the deadliest places here. Especially when it's raining and high tide. I recommend just to go mountain or falls looking, where it's more safe .

Living on the islands, I've experienced many things that today I cannot. I would go hiking trails that are now closed off do due tourist not being careful and beaches that are private due to people buying the land or others not taking care of the beach. Lots of places on Kauai are now gated or have safety signs because the lack of respect or carefulness. I haven't seen any of those spots I've visited in the video which makes sense as it was all gated off. From my experience the video does not match the video whatsoever. I lived my life like any other person. Before tourist visit the islands, id like and hope that they have awareness to the people who actually live off the island rather then looking at it as a vacation spot. I've worked at a diner before and I'm just gonna say I wish that tourist have more respect and not act all high and mighty. I believe this goes along with "we need tourist to survive" when I believe we shouldn't depend on people like them. If the island was taken over by tourist, I think that all of Hawaiis culture, beliefs, and beauty will be stripped and turn into the mainland. that's why a lot of places are gated off here and private to preserve the beauty and to keep tourist out. I mean just a couple years ago, the reefs had been dying from sunscreen when tourist were booming.

in the video they mainly show the north shore and the na pali coast, and this is obviously being targeted to the tourist to make them come here. i wouldnt make a video at all because a lot of places on this island should just be mean for people who live here mainly for safety but also because people here respect the island a lot more and understand everyhting. ive lives here my whole life and have been everywhere in this video and have done everything in this video and some things you cant do anymore because of tourist which is sad because locals arent the ones doing anything wrong.

living on this island has been a blessing and ive never been more greatful to grow up somewhere my family is not from here but i am and i have a very deep connection with this place and mainly the ocean. in the video ive done everything they have shown and some of it you can no longer do because of rules and what tourist have done i do wish that we had soem boundries to where tourist can and cant go personally i think that we shouldnt tell them anything and if they find it on their own then they can do it. bu that should be there fault if anything happens. before they come we should definetly be telling them where they cant go and how respectful they should be.

Living on an island is very different than living on the mainland. I feel like there are a lot of pros to having such a close knit community. I honestly think that this place is great for young kids to have a positive and happy upbringing. Unfortunately I feel like living away from a larger society creates this ignorance towards larger issues. Personally I feel like its good to live here your first 18 or so years of your life but after that I feel like we should move on and experience the "real world." When it comes to image and how tourist view our island I feel like most people know what they're going to expect. There are a lot of tourist who come and enjoy themselves and are very respectful. It is the select few that ruin it for others and cast this negative image on other tourist. I feel like all tourist should be treated nicely until they proven they don't deserve our respect. Another thing I can start to see is how much of our island is becoming modernized and more whitewashed. Preserve its naturalness and its spirit. I wouldn't wanna go to a place that said it was tropic and urban and to find out that they have these mega malls and these building and whatnot. If I wanted to go experience a nice city I would go to California or somewhere else on the mainland. Don't spoil the natural beauty we have just so you can have a Starbucks and a Ross just to make a dollar.

The video shown gives everyone an idea of what Hawaii could be when in reality it's not as pretty as it seems. It shows us all the beautiful parts that us locals and tourist live for day in and out. Living here vs the mainland is a completely different life style because here in Hawaii we treat each other and its land with respect, whereas people from the mainland only need to worry about their egos and how they choose to live their lives. I understand that they believe Hawaii is a free place where they can do what they like for memory, but its because of their actions that things always end up going south. Tourist kill all the coral with choke sunscreen for protect them from something they wanted to come here and enjoy. They disrespect thew locals, land, and animal life around the islands. They think because of what they do up in the mainland, they get some authority over here thinking they can do as they please. I wish tourist understood that it is a completely different energy when you come to Hawaii and to treat everything with respect being humble and kind. Places I wish tourist wouldn't go are the places they not suppose to or even anywhere in all of the islands of Hawaii because they lack common sense sometimes and they do what they like thinking its okay when its not. No spoil Hawaii for us locals Mumbai we going tell you for dig out!

The video shows the natural and historical parts of Kauai, and paints Kauai as a luxury getaway/vacation. But in reality it is just a place with people that are trying to live their life. I personally don't think I would make a video on the topic because I am not well involved with the culture. Despite everything, yes Kauai is beautiful place, but the island should be kept that way and not be disturbed.

My experience living on the beautiful island on Kauai is nevertheless amazing. I absolutely love that I am able to call this place home and live here. Although life here isn't as updated at the mainland we are still blessed with the beauty and culture of our land and the ancestry. The island really is beautiful and the video really shows the beauty of the island and yes it shows hula and the kalo patches but it really doesn't inform them about the sacred meaningful places that were shown. There is some things that tourist do that is disrespectful to the aina and the culture but most of them don't even know what they're doing wrong because they know nothing about the island and how much meaning there is. I wish they took the time to learn about what they're coming to. I wish they would take the time to learn about the culture and meaning so they do not disrespect the culture and the land that was built by our kupuna. There are a lot of places I wish tourist never go to but its all up to the mayor and government.

Living on the island of Kauai is a blessing. Its great knowing that I'm just miles away from beautiful sites like Kokee and sleeping giant. The video kind of match to in real life view because they dont see us locals kind of struggling living in this place called "paradise" tourists are alright being in the island for a vacation but one that isn't acceptable to all of us locals is when tourist dont show respect and they start trashing the island. I would want to tell tourists before coming to the islands that please and show respect. Please do not start ruining the beautiful spots and us locals will respect your well being like you're part of our ohana.

I love hiking up sleeping giant and looking up the view from the top and hikling up to hanakapiai falls because of the views hiking up and youll see one of the best view in kauai. One of the best part about living in the island of kauai is the beach. I like to go to poipu side when going to beach because for me i think poipu has best spot and best view to go to the beach.
