-Gordie(Gordon) Lachance comes from a family who is imperfect in their own ways. A couple months before the story begins Gordie’s older brother was killed in a car accident. His parents don’t ever really get over his brother's death. Gordie finds a metaphor to fit his condition in a book called “The Invisible Man”. Even after all this Gordie doesn’t resent his parents. Somehow he feels responsible for his brother’s death. Gordie also has recurring nightmares that involve the death of his brother.

-Chris Chambers is Gordie’s closest friend. He comes from an extremely abusive family. His mother is unaccounted for and his father is a violent alcoholic. One of his older brothers was convicted of SA.His second brother is part of a delinquent gang.Although Chris desperately wants to distance himself from this typecast, the prejudice that often comes from living in such an isolated and small community prevents him from accomplishing this goal.

-Teddy Duchamp is the son of a mentally ill father. His father is a WWll veteran who came home deeply affected by the traumatic events that occured on the beaches of Normandy. His father’s condition was never treated which led him to become violent. When Teddy was a kid he broke a plate and as punishment his dad held his head against a hot stove. The injury left Teddy with a hearing impairment and a disfigured ear.Much like the rest of the boy his innocence causes him to feel no resentment towards his father.

-Vern is the last boy. We don’t really know anything about his family except for the fact he is terrified of his brother.

The setting

The Body by Stephen King is set in 1960 in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine

Important quote

The book opens with a really good hook. It says "The most important things are the hardest to say. They are things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them--words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that isn't it?" This shows that what you might want to say feels too big to put into words. This could also be an example of overthinking.Someone could probably think what they have to say won’t feel as important to someone else.
