I focus a lot on growth in my class. After a student completes their multiple-choice questions in Achieve3000, they always have the opportunity to work on the stretch questions and article. They are empowered to improve their results by working at a higher lexile and rigor level. They have already received scaffolding for the stretch level article through our pre-reading activities and their personalized level activity. Many of my students opt to do the stretch level activity to challenge themselves, and since they have a vested interest in their success, they tend to do well. They feel very proud of themselves when they realize that the stretch level is at their specific grade level for reading. This encourages continued striving for success.

Challenging students with finding the answers themselves

Students have only 3 times a week they can ask for specific help on what we learned or what to do. They'll have tickets that they spend to ask the question. So, 3 tickets a week and they have to spend the ticket to ask. If they run out of tickets - they have to figure it out themselves. End of the week or maybe month - students with tickets can use it as currency to purchase something from a rewards box.
