Chapter 1

1) Annemarie, Kirsti and Ellen were on their way home from school.
2) Annemarie asked Ellen to have a race with her.
3) While they were running, two Nazis soldiers stopped and approached them.
4) They started to interrogate the girls; asking their names, what’s inside their bag, and where were they going.
5) The soldiers let them went back to their house and told them not to run around again.
6) Kirsti told Mrs. Johansen what had happened on their way home.
7) She was shocked and worried about her daughters’ safety.
8) Mrs. Rosen, Ellen’s mother was at the house too. She had the same expression as Mrs. Johansen.
9) The mothers told the girls to use different road to school and avoid the soldiers.


Chapter 2

1) Before the girls went to bed, Kirsti requested for a bedtime story.
2) She wanted to listen to fairytales about a king, a queen and their princess.
3) While Annemarie was telling the story, she remembered a story that Papa used to tell her about a king, a boy and the soldier.
4) The king was King Christian X, a king of Denmark.
5) Besides the king, Annemarie also remembered her sister, Lise.
6) Lise was her older sister who had passed away due to an accident.


Chapter 3

• One day, Mama asked the girls to go to Mrs. Hirsch to buy buttons for Kirsti’s sweater.
• They went there after school but the shop was closed.
• There was a sign at the door written in German so they couldn’t understand what it meant.
• Annemarie told the mother about it and Mrs. Johansen looked very worried.
• She went to tell Mrs. Rosen straightaway. 
• The shop was closed there was an order from the Nazi to have all of the shop owned by the Jews to be closed.
• Peter Neilsen came to their house at midnight to confirm about this.
• Another worry was, The Rosens.
• The Rosens were Jewish too, but Papa thought that they would be fine because Mr. Rosen was just a teacher.
• Annemarie decided she would protect Ellen and her family no matter what.

Chapter 4

• It was New Year for the Jews.
• Ellen was very excited to celebrate New Year with her family.
• However, she didn’t get to enjoy the celebration because she was sent to the Johansens.
• The nazis found out where the Jewish people lived and their personal details as well.
• They actively searched through houses to hunt them down.
• Ellen had to pretend as Lise Johansen in order to protect her identity.
• Meanwhile, her parents were separated from her and had to hide elsewhere. 

Chapter 5

• The girls were getting ready to go to bed while having conversation with each other.
• Upon falling asleep, Annemarie heard a loud bang on the door. 
• The German soldiers were standing in front of their house searching for the Rosens’ family.
• Papa and Mama tried to stop them from entering the house but failed.
• They barged into the girls’ bedroom, forcing them out and started to interrogate them.

Chapter 6

• Mama suggested that the girls should not go to school.
• Instead, they would follow Mama to Uncle Henrik’s house.
• Only the ladies went there, Papa was left behind in order to avoid suspicion. 
• While on the train they nearly get caught by the soldiers but luckily Kirsti didn’t blurt out any info about Ellen.

Chapter 7 

• Annemarie and Ellen were playing around the area.
• They went nearby the sea and gaze at the land across them, Sweden.
• Mama warned the girls to be extra careful and not to talk to stranger because it will be hard to explain who Ellen is.

But Annemarie was able to fierce soldiers.

2) She risks a plan quick even thought it could cause a little injury, but it was worth saving her best friend Ellen.

3) As a 10 year old girl, soldiers have dangerous weapons that could possibly kill people, but Annemarie would stand her ground and talk for people.

4) In the story, a grown adult went back inside her house in Chapter 1. But Annemarie never step back from a serious conversation, even it could cost her life.

5) She confronted Uncle Henrik, because she knows the "Great aunt-Birte" doesn't exist in the family tree. A 10 year old questioning a full grown adult about war, life and death is not a normal conversation.

6) Annemarie wanted to protect Ellen, because Ellen is her best friend so she must protect her.

7) Ellen can't even answer a soldier's question during Chapter 1, she's scared as a butterfly and that proves she's weak.
