Jacksonville, NC

For "where I'm from", I chose Jacksonville, my technical hometown, though I wasn't born here. I've lived up and down the east coast, but have spent most time in Jacksonville. Jacksonville is truthfully home, as this is where I experienced all of...life, essentially! However, more specifically, I chose a trail in the woods near my house. Here is my favorite spot on Earth, seriously. I started walking on this trail daily December 2018. I'd spend hours here; journaling, meditating, experiencing the full range of emotions, going off trail, walking through the ankle deep stream, hanging out with friends- everything! It was during these hours in the woods that i really found myself and who I wanted to be. I always came during times of crisis (especially during the 2020 quarantine), and just general free time. This place has a spot in my heart.

Chapel Hill, NC

Chapel Hill is one of my favorite places in NC (aside from Boone and Emerald Isle). My closest friend moved here (she recently moved to Durham) as she transferred to UNC Chapel Hill in 2020, and I would always stop by as a "midway break" as I'd drive the 5 hours to Boone from home. The first time I ever stopped by, we walked up and down Franklin street and I was absolutely in love. The more I'd visit, I'd fall even more in love- with the places, the architecture, the plant life, the people, the feelings, the lifestyle (including driving 13+ minutes just to get to a Walmart), the fact that everything within the Triangle was always within 40 minutes, the housing, everything. I had always considered transferring to UNC, but I'm too stupid for that. For sure, my visits (including some weekends just to enjoy the town) to CH deepened our friendship. Maybe I'll move there someday.

Emerald Isle is another place that is equivalent to the forest trail near my house. A place of spirituality and self discovery. I only ever come here at nighttime, rain or shine, hot or cold, often with one of my best friends. Here, I walk, meditate, journal, listen to music, dance, sit and stare at the stars, bathe in the shallow ends of the water (yes, at night)- everything. I love nothing more than to feel the warm, humid wind blow on me and the warm water on my feet at night. I love watching people fish off the pier, hearing nothing but waves as they silently focus on their catch. I love the smooth, cool sand under my feet. I love how the lights fade away on the sand the further I get. I love the moon guiding me as I get to the pitch black areas of the beach. I absolutely adore crabs (they're my 2nd favorite animal), so watching them run around at night is amazing. I love walking through the tidal pools, shining my flashlight, watching little fish swim around me. I miss this place everyday, and sorta wish there was a school here so I could have it at my ease, lol.
