Purposes: What does the text do, or intend to do? What can be suggested about the writer’s intent? Are the intentions made obvious, or are they conveyed more subtly, requiring a more sensitive reading?

The advertisement is trying to convey that obesity can not only have an impact in your personal well being but to the people around you. The quote that is between the hands assumingely of a child shows the writer's subtle intention to imply that obesity can hinder you normal activity, restricting your ability to interact with your children. This advertisement does not convey its intention in a direct and explicit way, it requires more attention from the reader to understand the meaning behind it.

Audiences: Who is being addressed? What kind of reader (in terms of say demographics, gender, class, social status) is addressed, and how is this shown? What is assumed about the reader of the text? How is the reader positioned in the text? If there is a narrator (see below), there is also, presumably, a narratee.
This advertisement targets a wide group of people, targeting on all adults that have children that are experiencing with obesity or even with adults without children yet. The advertisement is about how obesity can affect family relationship which address to all adults with obesity no matter the gender, race, or social status. The advertisement is assuming that readers are people who are experiencing with obesity and the reader is positioned in the ad to feel guilty that they could have a negative impact with their children.

Narrative: Who speaks in the text? Is there an ‘I’ or a ‘we’, and if so, so what? Does the writer seem to address the reader directly, or is there a persona that addresses the reader? Does the narrative voice remain consistent, or does it shift? If it shifts, speculate why this is.

Lexis: What is the use of vocabulary, register, and figurative language?

The advertisement uses figurative language to convey the meaning behind the ad. It uses metaphor to make a comparison between the inches apart the child's arm with a family relationship.

Grammar: What is the use and effect of syntax, person, verb tenses, and punctuation?

The quote uses a comma that puts emphases on the inches apart of the child's arm.

Genre: What kind of text is this? What is its form and structure? Does it remind you of other, similar texts? To what extent is the text conventional?

Presentation and organization: How is the text laid out on the page? What is the use and effect of image and typeface? How are ideas ordered and sequenced?

The advertisement shows a view of the back of the adult when receiving a hug from their children. Showing the back of the person can create this image inside the reader's mind showing how it is like for their child if they were the person in the ad.

Reader response: What does the text mean to the reader? How is the reader persuaded to understand the text? What oppositional readings are possible? That is, how can the reader reject the main ideas or claims of the text?

Ideology: What values and beliefs does the text state or suggest? How are such values influenced by the contexts of the text’s production?
The advertisement suggest a belief that obesity hinders the relationship with you child.

Are the intentions made obvious, or are they conveyed more subtly, requiring a more sensitive reading?
The advertisement is trying to create a division in apparel between gender to open up the market. By doing this they can create a specific clothing line for both gender. The purpose is to categorize boys and girls into the stereotypes and color.

Audiences: Who is being addressed? How is the reader positioned in the text? If there is a narrator (see below), there is also, presumably, a narratee.
The advertisement is addressed towards parents, as it is about children apparels.
