The main reason for supporting the construction of high-speed rail is the future economic development and environmental protection.According to Patel(2016),Australia's long-term economic development needs to be supported by the construction of high-speed railways,Patel also claimed that high-speed railway has less carbon emissions, which is good for the environment.The results shown in Subinur(2020) are consistent with those of Patel(2016),who found that Australia's future economic development needs high-speed railway to support,moreover,high-speed railway could be funded by charging more taxes on the airline industry(Subinur,2020).All this evidences suggest that it may be more benefit to build high-speed rail. In addition, Picard (2015) further adds that Australia’s population is too small to justify high costs of building high-speed rail. On the other hand, Australia has a growing population. Current travel infrastructure too basic to cope with growth, (Patel, 2016). However, Patel (2016) and Subinur (2020) argue that in order to fund high speed rail and subsidise rail users, a carbon tax could be placed on air travel, High-speed rail network has better long-term environmental advantages, so high-speed rail is needed.
