The results and the learning outcomes, however, need to be assessed first before we can talk about the benefits of such an ambitious plan. Another thing is that not all countries could integrate this Project Maths idea into the curriculum unless they adapt it to properly suit the specific country's needs and deficiencies! However, I remember Maths being a real nightmare for me in high school. My elder son often complains that he has to memorise dozens of formulas for various tests, which he soon after forgets. He is now preparing for the entrance exam and he has to know hundreds of formulas by heart. So, yes, teaching Maths in Serbia definitely has to undergo significant changes.
Project Maths in Ireland seems to be a breath of fresh air. I understand the principle, I realise how it works in theory.
However, I would have appreciated to see how a specific mathematical problem was solved in the traditional way and how it is done during a lesson. They are in first person: "managing myself" "staying well"... It might be a nuance but it is important.
At Senior Cycle, once key Competences have been
assimilated, their names are adapted to a higher comprehension level.
When competences are introduced to pupils, they are named for pupils to grasp them and become responsible for them. I wonder though if most students really get to understand them, as these concepts are rather abstract.
On the other hand, if students have to sit state exams at the end of Junior and Senior cycles, are these exams  also based on competence skills? If not, there is no real alignment yet, I guess.

A very successfuly reform. This is an amazing example of a well done change.. It's very interesting to know about other teaching techniques from different countries. Mathematics is usually a problem for students.  New teaching methods are important because through them our students will be able to solve any rype of problems feeling self-confident, motivated and the main characters of their own learning process. In addition I think teachers will be more satisfy about their work with pupils, too.I think that these changes can help teachers with other teaching subjects. Students are encouraged to work collaboratively, to be imaginative and creative.  In my country educational policy is recognized. The fact is encouraging and make me as a teacher happy. We are waiting for new national curriculum. I hope it will be soon and it will follow some good European example like the Irish.
