Pick a character from "The Outsiders" and create a timeline in which you describe how that character has developed over the course of the novel. Cite the evidence of their development with specific page numbers and also describe how that development is changing them (for the better or worse, and in what way)

"You really killed him, huh, Johnny?"
"Yeah." His voice quavered slightly. "I had to. They were drowning you, Pony.
They might have killed you. And they had a blade... they were gonna beat me up...."

Johnny finally acts on the fear that was put into him and becomes a killer. He decides that he and Ponyboy need to run away and lay low for awhile. He's committed to becoming an outlaw, even dragging Ponyboy into it. Partly for Ponyboy's own safety, and partly to prevent himself from going to jail.

"I got a good chance of bein' let off easy," Johnny said desperately, and I didn't know if it was Dally he was trying to convince or himself. "I ain't got no record with the fuzz and it was self-defense. Ponyboy and Cherry can testify to that. And I don't aim to stay in that church all my life."
That was quite a speech for Johnny. His big black eyes grew bigger than ever at the thought of going to the police station, for Johnny had a deathly fear of cops, but he went on. . . "

Johnny works up the courage to get over his fears so that he and Ponyboy doesn't have to hide for the rest of their lives. It's clear that this serves both him and Ponyboy, but given his often kind-hearted actions, it seems like Johnny just wants to do the right thing.
