• Sub-genre of fiction
• Involves advanced technology that makes life easier/more complicated
• Space travel/time travel
• Life on other planets
• The world looks different than it does today
• The problem in the story is often because of the influence of technology on society
• Aliens/non-human lifeforms
• Almost always set in the future though time travel can take characters to the past.  (There is a subgenre of Sci-Fi that looks at technology from the past. It is called Steampunk)
• Sometimes current technology catches up, making science fiction seem like it is current/possibly non-fiction
  • In the time that the Jetsons were made in the 1960’s they did not have teleconferences/ like Zoom
