The SEND Code of Practice says 'a child of compulsory school age ... has a learning difficulty or disability if they:

Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age or Have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of the facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in a mainstream school'

The SEND Register

Where a need is identified in one or more areas detailed in the SEND Code of Practice, we aim to work in collaboration with parents to support their child's individual needs.
Pupils will be placed on the SEND register and will have an Additional Needs Plan which is set and reviewed 3 x year.

Using a word processing package can help children with their writing and spelling and enable them to produce a higher quality of written text. Keyboard skills are particularly useful as children get ready to move on to secondary school. Therefore, learning to touch type can be very beneficial indeed. There are quite a few packages available but I would recommend trying the BBC Bitesize Dance Mat programme. I have found it easy to access and best of all it is completely free.

The British Dyslexia Association tells us Dyslexia is a learning difference which primarily affects reading and writing skills. However, it does not only affect these skills. Dyslexia is actually about information processing. Dyslexic people may have difficulty processing and remembering information they see and hear, which can affect learning and the acquisition of literacy skills. Dyslexia can also impact on other areas such as organisational skills.

It is important to remember that there are positives to thinking differently. Many dyslexic people show strengths in areas such as reasoning and in visual and creative fields.

They specialise in supporting families and professionals working with individuals that struggle to access conventional style approaches. They offer on-demand resources, live and on-demand training, support services, and therapeutic programmes.
