It is the largest and oldest organization of it's kind.  Part of the mission of the AAIDD is to promote universal human rights for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA)</strong><br>This civil rights legislation made it illegal to discriminate against people with disabilities.  The ADA made sure public spaces are accessable.   This legislation also  protects children with disabilities in settings such as summer camps and sports teams.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)</strong><br><br>This four part law was signed by George W. Bush.  This law made sure students with disabilities were to receive a free and appropriate education.  It also guarantees the least restrictive environment (LRE), procedural safe guards, and appropriate evaluations.  It was an expansion and reauthorization of the 1990 legislation. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Hobson v. Hansen<br><br></strong>This case ruled that tracking systems for students were unconstitutional.  Students were separated using standard aptitude tests, which were culturally biased.  Once students were on a track they were not able to advance.  This was declared to be in violation of equal education opportunity, under the 14<sup>th</sup> amendment.  </div>]]></description>
