2. EXERCISE 2
Try to find all the moves that give check.
If you see # behind the move you played, it is mate.
If you see + behind the move you played, it is check. In that case, find out how the King can defend against the check (think of CBM (capture-block-move))

I like to show position 6 when they learned about mate. I put the pupils in groups and they have to find as many mates as possible.

3. EXERCISE 3
Put pieces on the board to create mate
Open the pdf-document. You will see some positions, but some pieces fell off the board (you can find them under the board). Pick them up and put them on the squares with the circles (i.e. write down on which square they belong) in order to mate the black King.

 

As you know, we have been studying the concept of checkmate. The following assignments are designed to help you explore the concept of Check, Checkmate, and Mate in One. Mate in One means that the player to move can checkmate the opposing King in one move.
