While child trafficking in victorian era was very similar to now but, has its differences. During this time the law said that the child would belong the father and the father was expected to be honorable to his children and wife but often this wasn't the case. A common example during the 1800's in England was they forced boys in to naval service. They commonly worked as powder monkeys/ servants, were usually 11 or 12 but some were younger and a good percent of them were orphans or had gotten in trouble with the law. They were treated very inhumanly and were given the bare minimum to survive. It's not legal or morally acceptable for a father to sell his child now but, it was legal and common then.
