“New teachers should know to throw your idea of a student out the window. Most of us I think base this idea on ourselves as students, and you are in for a wakeup call when you meet all the different students that exist. You have to figure out what makes each student tick in order to reach them and expand their education. You can’t operate based on what you did or how you behaved as a student. I made this mistake.”

-MaryRuth Hart, Elementary ESOL Teacher

"Teaching 6-12 year olds keeps you young. Always in their state of mind. ALL learning can be fun. You are the leader that can make each lesson fun and engaging for the kids. You should be flexible. It’s often easier to say yes and just do it. Than say no. And then spend even more time fighting what is going to happen anyway. Teaching your subject is only part of your role in school. Examples - Committees, Patrol Sponsor, bus duty, lock down drills, wellness liaison, plan School wide events like volleyball games against other schools, Fun Run, Field Days, etc etc etc"

-Josh Antoncic, Elementary Physical Education

"The education field is not exactly what I dreamed it would be; there are many challenges that you won’t understand until you are knee deep in it, and it can be hard. Very hard at times. I just remember that I am blessed to have the chance to bring hope to the children I see each day, and that often, I may be the only positive thing in their lives that day. I am a music teacher and MUSIC IS IMPORTANT, but they are more important than the music."

-Jeremiah Tyler, Elementary Music Teacher
