Some common ways to end a story is to end in a resolution or come over a fear. On page 108 it says, "she said to herself, but I cannot I've tried before and failed. You must, said herself back to her" This explains how she's thinking and the way she is trying to come over her own fear.

Some things a writer wants to accomplish in a story's ending is a resolution to a conflict. In this chapter Alyce is having a conflict with herself on page 108, "keep still all of you let me try" said Alyce coming out from behind the ladder she got the woman to her feet and walked her around the room stopping now and then to pour some ale into her." This explains how the author is trying to accomplish her getting over her fears and helping people when in doubt of her abilities.

1)What are some ways to start a story?

A lot of people start a story with a hook to hook the reader and make them want to read the book. You can also start a book with introducing the characters. The last one is introducing the setting to start a story. These are a lot of common ways and popular ways to start a story.

2)What might a writer aim to accomplish at a story’s beginning?

The writer would probably try to do all the things that I listed for 1. The author would try and introduce the characters, introducing the setting, and last making the plot to begin. These are all things authors would do in the beginning of the story.

3)How does Cushman begin chapters 16 and 17? What might she wish to accomplish?

She begins chapter 16 with talking about the setting and then mind 'Will Alyce help the lady or not?' riders came into the diner claiming that the women had a stomach worm, quick Jane told them that the women was at birth. Cushman wanted to set the question in the readers (page 104-106)

She begins chapter 17 with the setting showing that she was in a meadow and thinking about her choices (page 112-113)

If you start off with a hook, you can make the reader curious about what comes next after a certain event. You can also start with a character's backstory. The characters backstory can lead into who the character is in modern time, but still doesn't have all of their skills that they learn later on. These two things can be acceptable ways to start off a story.

A writer may want to accomplish writing a hook or a character's backstory.

A common way to end a story is to either have a happy ending. This could either mean that the character is currently content. Or will be content later in life. Or a common way to end a story is to have a sad ending. The main character will die or will be defeated by the overall bad guy. These are the 2 most common ways two end the story.

A writer might aim to accomplish a story's ending by telling the reader what happens in the rest of their life. The writer will also try to put the important characters one more time in the story. THe most important thing is to not leave it on a cliffhanger unless their will be a series.

A writer also might want the protagonist to live in fame after all of his questing, or the protagonist might become an all time hero protecting villages. In many stories the protagonist probably will come out on top celebrated for generations in some stories.

"One warm evening came A stillness as if the whole world were holding its breath". (Cushman 104). cushman wanted it to seem like a sad and gloomy chapter by exploding the moment. "June bursts into bloom daisies, larkspur, meadowsweet and thyme." (Cushman 112). Cushman switches the mood from depressing to very joyful and delightful by exploding the moment.

3) The author begins chapter 16 with,"One warm evening came a stillness as if the whole world were holding its breath. Thunderstorm, thought Alyce..."(104). The author starts chapter 17 with, " June burst into bloom- daisies, larkspur, meadowsweet and thyme..."(112). Both of these are the first few sentences said in chapters 16 and 17 and they relate because they are both introducing the setting with lots of details. At the end of the chapters, I think the author will probably introduce a new setting to start off the next chapter.
