Redesign the Trondheim Bus Routes

Many people here in Trondheim rely on bus routes for transportation and getting around the greater Sør-Trondelag area. Although the bus system is functional, there is always room for improvement. By gathering data on route frequency, popular bus stops, and how traffic fluctuates during the day, there are certainly better ways in which AtB bus routes can be improved.

The Boreal forest that stretches across the Northern Hemisphere contains nearly 40% of the Earth's carbon, which goes to show how vital trees can be in reduces greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. By planning areas which can be planted with native trees such as the Scots Pine or Norwegian Spruce, organizing an efficient way to grow such trees fast and effectively can contribute a significant impact on combating local emissions.

Producing renewable energy is nowadays much easier for our ever-developing society, however, the issue engineers face is not producing renewable energy, but rather storing renewable energy. For mountainous regions, engineers have developed turbines to move water up mountains, however this process is very inefficient. According to Matt Reynolds, gravity cranes could provide an enticing solution. By organizing where these cranes should be located in Norway, or how large the cranes should be, could provide a challenging task that helps contribute to the sustainable initiative.

Reorganize Waste Management using Lean Manufacturing Concepts

The concept of lean manufacturing has significantly improved the efficiency of production by reducing waste, decreasing energy usage and transportation, etc. What if we could apply this same concepts to waste disposal and recycling? By treating waste disposal not as a byproduct, but rather raw material for manufacturing, it is possible to reinvent how items are disposed of and recycled. Norway already does a good job of this compared to the rest of the world, but systems can always be improved upon. The motive, like any other manufacturing goal, is to end up with a maximum yield of product with minimal amount of waste.
