All teachers teach in different ways so students need to be informed of each teacher's instructional delivery at the start of the year when going over classroom procedures. This should be reviewed throughout the first two weeks so students know what to expect and how to respond for the remainder of the school year.

Try incorporating positive reinforcement strategies and learning about your students. Reflect on the student's behavior and think about why the student may be acting that way. Perhaps the student just needs a reminder or encouragement instead of immediately calling for an administrator.

Really liked the Cultural Responsiveness section to have teachers reflect before making a final decision around behavior (could it be due to culture or part of behavior). The scenarios provided were worthy to share with groups of teachers to help them reflect upon their work.

Teaching while utilizing [stationary] technology can make it difficult to apply this strategy in the classroom. It results in staff being "married" to one location and placing "desired" students in specific locations. It limits the ability to be mobile and engage students while utilizing the technology. We need to be creative in our use of [stationary] technology so that this strategy can be effective for learning, managing behaviors, and engaging all in the environment.

Restitution is critical, but can cause increased intensity to the student's emotional response in the moment. Knowing the student well enough to appropriately time the opportunities for restitution can help them see the value of it. Always circling back to it, even if it's the next day can also send a message of "it's never too late to make things right;" however, we need to be careful not to communicate it in a way that appears as if we're holding a grudge.
