There is not just one cause that led to the Great Depression; instead it was a series of things that ultimately created it. First of all, the stock market crash of 1929 caused many people to lose large amounts of money which sent them into panic to the point that everyone was pulling their stocks out in hopes to at least save a little bit. Another thing that led to it was the major gap between the rich and the poor that grew exponentially during the 1920's. The third reason was the fact that prices were falling especially in agriculture since everything was in large supply, and this also goes with the Dust Bowl since this also affected the economy. The last thing is the tariffs that emerged between nations since this led to a decrease in exports.

2. Minorities did get a New Deal in some ways; however, it was much better for white men than it was for anyone else. Roosevelt did want to take too much action that would cause the south to react harshly, so he made sure not to give African Americans too much power. One example of this is that minimum wage did not apply to farm or domestic work which is where most African Americans worked. Also, immigrants didn't get a New Deal either because many of them were sent back or not allowed to enter America at all. The New Deal did help many people that were poor especially though things like Tennessee Valley Authority, minimum wage, Social Security since they helped to get money to them. 

3. Life for women changed between the 1920's and the 1930's because they grew their individualism since they showed that they could do more by themselves without being told what to do by a man. On top of this, they also grew socially since they changed that the way that they dressed and acted. I think that this change occurred mostly because of women's suffrage since they believed that they needed to act for themselves and be equals if they were going to have the right to vote like their male counterparts. Lastly, life was better for single women than married women because married women were expected to have everything provided to them from their husbands, therefore, they often lost their jobs when the Great Depression came.

The legacy of the New Deal is that it helped to get America back up and running since it helped to get America out of the darkness of the Great Depression; however, there is a lot more to the story of the New Deal. Overall, the lasting impact has been good, and there are still parts of it that exist today like Social Security. One of the problems of the New Deal at the time though was that it was discriminatory since it tended to be more beneficial to white males as compared to African Americans, women, and immigrants. People were putting their whole life savings into stocks. When they ran out of money they would use credit or their stocks to raise the price of the product as more people “bought” items. 2. FDR worked to have citizens feel secure and trust their government again, after times where the government wasn’t stepping in. From 1933-1935, relief, recovery and reform were goals for the New Deal. It worked to get people working through “ABCs soup.” From 1935-1938, the second New Deal took place. Minorities were not a part of these plans to reform. African Americans were at a 50 % unemployment rate which was double whites. Whites got the first pick of the jobs. African Americans were discriminated against as Jim Crow laws were still in place, and the New Deal had no plan in changing that.

3. Women were left out of the plans of the New Deal. In the 1920s, women were making progress with being a part of democracy. The 1930s they were yet again left out. Jobs for women were also harder to find. A majority of the jobs being provided by the government were building which women "weren't fit" to do.

4. The legacy of the New Deal has shaped the way people look at the United States government. People depend and look to the government in crisis, and expect the government to lead the country in a plan of response. There is not one major reason that cause the Great Depression to start. There was a lot a of money issues that had caused the Great Depression. Such as the stock market, bank failures, along with the crash of money supply. By so many people losing a lot of their money was causing a lot of the people to go into a panic. When people were running out of their money they were the starting to pull money out of their stocks hoping to have some. The Great Depression had started to happen after the stock market crash in 1929 wiping out millions of investors.

2. There were some certain groups that were able to get the New Deal. People who were unemployed, along with youth and elderly people were able to receive the New Deal. The New Deal did not necessarily go towards everyone in those groups. It mostly went towards white men. However, the New Deal by the FDR was harming the poor. The African Americans had by far way more unemployed people than white people did. But, the whites had first pick on jobs before the African Americans did. The African Americans alone had more 500,000 jobs that were lost. The New Deal did not do any justice at all for the poor people.

3.  Women's lives had a big change from the 1920's to the 1930's. Women seemed to have felt like they were not doing enough and just completely would listen to what men were telling them to do. Women were starting to dress differently and started doing more things themselves without being told to do so by men. Women had eventually ended up being able to vote which was a big thing for the women. Women started to slowly start to enter the workforce but then the Great Depression had happened and the New Deal had left out the women because it mainly went to the men. It was a lot harder for the women to find a job and gain money because they were not men.

The legacy of the New Deal was to help America by the way people would see the U.S. The impact of America has been good because it had gotten people's jobs back in order for them to make money again. However, the New Deal had also been bad in a way because it did not go towards everyone. It did not help out the poor even though they had a lot more people without jobs. The white men were the first to be helped and the women were not helped very much by the New Deal either. When talking about what caused the Great Depression, you can't pin the issue on one certain event.  One of the things that caused the Great Depression was the soaring economy.  The market was a bull market and it had been for nearly a decade.  Warehouses were mass producing just about everything possible, and once the stock market crashed in 1929 there was an excess of goods that nobody could afford to buy.  The lack of focus on the lower class and farmers also had reason for why the Great Depression occured.  The Dust Bowl was happening due to the lack of irrigation and this meant that there was less and less food available to the consumer.  The economy was a mess following the stock market crash of 1929 and the overproduction problems both are two of the major reasons that the Great Depression occurred following such a good time for the nation.  
2.  The New Deal applied to all groups of people, but minorities truly didn't get the same benefits.  The New Deal program that was the Agricultural Adjustment Administration had a terrible effect on African Americans since many of them were sharecroppers.  This program meant that white land owners could make just as much money leaving it untilled and leaving African Americans without jobs.  Social Security helped out the poor quite a bit as a part of the New Deal.  Minimum wage was also very helpful to the poor although African Americans were given lower pay scales and whites were given first chance at jobs.
3.Women's lives changed from the 1920's to the 1930's because they became more independent.  Women were allowed to wear what they wanted now rather than being forced to stay covered up prior, and women were also allowed to make their own decisions.  Women could decide who they wanted to marry, and they could get a divorce if they wanted one.  Women were now respected if they wanted to get a job.  A lot of this changed because of the new culture from the Roaring 20's and then the need for any sort of income once the Great Depression hit.
4. The New Deal had a very lasting legacy that gave the American people a different outlook on the government. Not only did this New Deal help the nation get out of the Great Depression but it brought new programs out of the decade that are still around today. People feel that the government needs to support the basic working citizen in some sort of way, especially considering Social Security. Although there were other factors, the stock market crashing is ultimately what led to the great depression. When the stock market plummeted in 1929, this greatly effected the economy. The economy had just been booming because of all the new productivity from the past decade, so because of the crash, the economy was hit hard. The stock market itself didn't really effect the average American, but it effected the businesses, investors, and banks which all end up effecting the average American. Many jobs were lost because there was no demand for production. The whole situation set people into a panic which only made things worse and added onto the 'depression'. Money practically lost its value. Other issues involving taxes, finances, etc all became apparent in this situation. The panic, economic decline, and other unfixed issues piling up is what made up the great depression, the stock market crashing just sort of kick-started it. 

2. Minorities technically got a new deal, because it was supposed to apply to all Americans. The issue was that the new deal really only tackled white problems and didn't really address minority problems. Some aspects of the new deal only applied to certain people in order to keep others from receiving the same. The Social Security Act and the NRA pay scales excluded domestic workers and farm laborers, which was mainly made up of black Americans and poor white Americans. So there wasn't much justice given to the poor either. The goal with this was to keep black people working in the fields instead of progressing. 

3. Life for women in the 30s was a step backwards instead of forwards. The New Deal was heavily based in outdated misogynistic rhetoric, so women didn't really have the upper hand either. Women had just obtained so much in the 20s because of voting and their new found confidence and independence. The 30s sort of made them take a step back since a lot of the new implications from the New Deal were not in favor of women being leaders and instead wanted them to be housewives. Women were still advancing for the time, but the New Deal was definitely a slap in the face. 

4. The New Deal implemented a lot of different things in order to help out the American people throughout the great depression and for the years to come. It put in place social security, which still to this day helps out many people. The deal got most unemployed Americans back on their feet. It's obvious that the New Deal was a great thing, it just failed to address some of the inequalities in America and it purposefully impacted minorities (black people) in a bad way. What caused the Great Depression?

The Great Depression was the result of financial negligence and the mishandling of money that would evidently tank the economy. There is no clear answer to how America ended up in a depression, but there were factors that help understand why. The American people were investing with money that they did not own and ended up in severe debt that would evidently help in the plummet of the economy. Also, the American's attitudes on the their institutions were also influences on the crash that happened in this time period because they pulled money out of their banks, collapsing with it. Other than these factors, the time period called for high tariffs and this was problematic for mass production and for the farmers that it effected. Overall, the reason that the Great Depression arise was because of the lack of government intervention and the overall financial steps that clueless Americans took that would hurt their finances and the economy. 

2. Did minorities get a New Deal?  Did it do justice to the poor?

In regards to the minority, I'd assume this includes POC and women, since white men were seen as a majority with an immense presence in American history. But in regards to the New Deal, I would argue that these people did not get the New Deal as would a white male would have. To further, for women specifically, they did not get much, if any, in the New Deal because they weren't seen as the providers in the household. The thinking being that the man worked and was the breadwinner while the wife stayed at home. Now as the Great Depression started taking the toll of many American families, women started to take charge into a workforce but this did not benefit women at all. Women were being sexually assaulted in these conditions. For POC, the response to the decline from Hoover was to stop immigration because of the scarce amount of jobs. For the most part, POC needs were neglected and as said from FDR,"I just can't take that risk." So they were also left out of the promises of the New Deal. In regards to the poor, the New Deal did help get people back on their feet and to work and find stability in the nation. It benefited people and was a time where the government was essentially listening to the needs of the people and openly trying to find ways to help people. Such as job programs, higher wages, and insurance.

3. How did life for women change between the 1920s and the 1930s?  Why?

The lives of women changed through the decades by the mindset that women had to take to keep them and their families afloat. The Great Depression forced families to send two parents into the workforce, giving woman a sense of individualism in correspondence to their need to work. This forced the general rule that men were breadwinners and women were homemakers a challenge to deal with because it did not suit the needs of families as they processed into the thirties. This time period would help grow the society's mindset on what is considered a "women's job" because of the independence that women had and the change of how women presented themselves going into the 1930's.

The legacy of the New Deal is the moment in history where the government intervened and help its citizens get out of the economy depression, leaving a mark in America's history that would help improve the relationship between the government and the people in a time of crisis. This left a lasting impact on the government's actions and attitudes during times of crisis, where the people can depend on the government to try and help its people. This includes helping in times of war, economic crashes, and damaging weather conditions. It created positive impact on Americans and left many Americans was a secured plan after retirement, Social Security. Where people after retirement would have money that would help them stay afloat, which is present day.

When people ran out of money they relied on their stocks to help them financially and took their savings accounts down along with them. And although there were many banks out there, there was nothing for the poor.

And since Roosevelt wanted everything instead of giving it to those who were in need of it, it made it impossible for the African Americans to get what they desired because of the discrimination that was displayed. Of the specifics, the most plausible reasons for the Great Depression are government policies, bank failures and panics, and the stock market crash of 1929. Now, many people argue that the stock market crash is not a cause of the Great Depression and they’re correct, the stock market crash is a factor to the real reason, an overall cause if you will. The stock market crash of 1929 was the cause for bank failures and overall panic. When the stock market crashed businesses began to lose money and the lack of money would then cause banks to take their consumers money and invest it without their consumers knowledge or permission. This would eventually lead to a large web of chaos that would eventually drop into the Great Depression.

2. The New Deal provided support for farmers, the unemployed, the youth, and the elderly. Minorities were not exactly popular during this time as often than not there was much more distaste toward other groups. It didn’t support working class women nor African Americans however, it did do some justice for the poor. One specific example of how they helped the poor would be minimum wage.

3. Women were slowly beginning to become accepted as workers and were eventually given the right to vote. This change happened through numerous protests after they came to the realization that political positions affected their daily lives. Protests make a change.

4. The New Deal holds the legacies of unemployment insurance, old age insurance, and insured bank deposits. This impact has been rather good for America as people who are struggling with unemployment or old age can have a sort of fall back in case something were to happen.

The great depression was caused by multiple reasons. The government and president Hoover did not step in to give relief to americans because Hoover thought the stocki market would rise up again. The stock market crashed in October of 1929 which before that the citizens were using credit for money they did not even have and banks overextended themselves in deals, companies were making bad investments and eventually would either be bankrupt or could not afford to pay their employees so millions of americans were laid off. The federal reserve increased tarrifs on imports which in return led to other countries rising their tarrifs on their exports which the U.S could not even afford. The president took action way to late and was very hated. 
2.)The minorites did benefit in some ways to the new deal but not as good as white men or even women did even though women were also left out most of the time. Low cost housing was introduced which helped but when something is low cost living the housing itself is usually not that great anyways. Tons of immigrants left the country whether on their own terms or not. White people were chosen first if there were any jobs or other options available. 
3.)Women not only changed in life style but their apperances changed as well. More groups of people accepted women as independent individuals especially because they had to hold their own in the war. Not everyone would agree during this time that women were able to be more independent but it did change for some peoples views. Women were more available to getting jobs even though it was for less pay it was an upgrade to what they previously had. Marriage views changed as well.
4.)The new deal had changed the way the government used its power. The governement was and still is able to help with natural disasters and things like that to provide relief for americans. The governement is also more heavily involoved in banks to catch fraud, and help with unemployement to which they provide money. Before the deal this was not assesable. 2. The New Deal was a way to bring back up groups of Americans. It helped support the unemployed, older people, farmers, and people not so wealthy. The New Deal helped the poor and allowed for better minimum wage. The New Deal did not support American Americans and working women. 

3. The Life of women through the 1920s and the 1930s was crazy. Women made progress in showing leadership and democracy. During the 1930s they weren't as equal as everyone else. Jobs where harder for women to find, they did not get a much money, and they had trouble fitting in.

Whites were still given first choice at jobs and higher pay during the timer period vs. minorities leaving no benefit really to them at this time. The poor benefited from the New Deal because of the vast amount of jobs that opened up leading to a stable source of income for all working classes.  
3. Woman got the right to vote at the very start of the 20s, they started to be able to get/hold jobs, and became ultimately more independent in society as a whole, and this is mostly due to previous decades women's movements that lead to these changes such as Seneca Falls, etc..

The legacy of the New Deal seems often forgotten in today's times as when it took place, the immediate effect didn't lend much aid as the depression would still take nearly a decade to somewhat recover from. 2. Minorities did get a new deal in a sense because it was for all Americans, but it really only applied to rich white Americans. Since there were dumb rules that made certain things only apply to rich white people, no it did not actually help minorities.
3. Women's life changed by becoming more modern. Women were more independent with the right to vote and the option to wear cloths with higher hemlines. They also didn't have as high expectations to be proper and could go to night clubs to dance.

The main thing that caused the Great Depression was the fact that consumerism was going up at an all time high, so people were getting paid more because businesses were getting paid more. However, once everyone bought their cars and items, and the businesses were getting less money, they had to pay their workers less, so they couldn't buy as much, creating a loop.
