Upon reading the opening lines of Gregor Sanaa's outrageous story, I found that Franz Kafka utilized a serious tone in a fantastic conflict. I could never find an understanding in the intent of the story or where the purpose was headed, so in hindsight the story on its own ended up being confusing and off putting and therefore it could not hold any kind of humorous aspect even in its opening sentence. The context was never clarified and so I was always kept asking more and more questions about this far fetched situation, so this story could not hold either a serious nor humorous tone because it only came off as mind boggling.

The story begins on such a light hearted and impractical tone of this odious situation , soon takes a shift to highlighting the surreal situation . Gregory becomes unable to control his limbs and face his family because of the fear of how they will react to his physical form. He is overdriven by anxiety due to the uncertainty of his new physical form .which forbrings the serious messege of the importance of physical looks and appearance .

But in the intro when I observered the fact the the young boy had turned into a bug, I thought that the narrator was speaking figuratively as in implying that he felt as if he was a bug laying on his back observing his oddly small legs . But around the 2nd page when He describes trying to get off his back to get ready for school, that the boy was serious.

As the text continues, pity becomes a profound emotion when seeing that Samsa is a hard working man who puts his job first in order to take care of his family. Through all the sacrifices he has made like working in bad weather, he continues to be determined and strives to reach his goal. The struggle and unexpectancy of becoming a bug fails to stop his strong willfullness as he focuses on making it out of his bed so his duties may continue.

In Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, the novela began with Samsa turning into a bug. I never once found it humorous, only disturbing and unsettling because of my distaste for bugs. However, as I continued to read, I began to understand the serious intent of the transformation. The result of Samsa being a bug makes him a living metaphor that represents the life he lives, bogged down by the pressure of responsibility he feels he owes to his family. In a strenuous job, Samsa resides at the bottom of the food chain, subject to ridicule and cruelty, similar to how a bug lives. The situation enhanced the daily struggle he perseveres through, highlighting how Samsa always gets stepped on.

(Sorry about the other two boxes. I was having difficulty posting on here without it closing out on me.)
Initially, when the story began, I was mainly puzzled by Gregor Samsa's situation. The ridiculousness of Samsa's state and his quick shift from assessing his new, insect-like appearance to the woes of his job contributed to my confusion. However, as he continued to describe his work and boss despite his current problem, I took the character's, Samsa, discontent with his work more seriously as he seemed to prioritize going to work over figuring out what had lead to his strange transformation. When Gregor Samsa had woken up in bed, he was slightly perplexed and quietly thought over his discovery of his body's change, however when he had discovered that he was late for work, he was thoroughly alarmed. His reactions displays how important completing his work is to himself.
