when there is a nuclear explosion find something to cover your head and duck and cover. In the 1950s the Soviet union started to drop bombs so we came up with the duck and cover idea for school. in school at random times the teachers would yell drop to see of the students were ready at any time. in magazines there were sales for bomb shelters at the time. the government would bring a cartoon around to schools to show to kids. In this cartoon a turtle would duck and cover at any flash of light. In school you would duck and cover under a desk and at home you would go to a bomb shelter.https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-17858981

clouds can have many different names and they can all look different. how the clouds get there name is how high or low the clouds are. How you can tell what type of cloud it is by looking how the
shape the cloud is or where it is located like close to the ground or high in the sky. some types of clouds are cirrus clouds these clouds are high in the sky and look like feathers. Cumulus are middle clouds these look like big cotton balls in the sky. stratus clouds are low clouds these clouds cover the sky like bed sheets. clouds are important because at night the clouds reflect heat on the ground and keep us warm. In the day the clouds give us shade so the we don't get to hot. https://www.weatherwizkids.com/weather-clouds.htm

Duck and Cover was used at school just in case someone invades there school.
Some cities even made small metal dog tags for children to wear, so that they could be identified in case a bomb killed them.
Cities set up public fallout centers where people could go to run away from atomic radiation and they also stored large amounts of food and installed emergency broadcast systems in public places.
The goal of this drill was to protect against several dangerous side effects of a nuclear blast. The force of the explosion could create immense amounts of heat. It could also cause windows to shatter.
Schools encouraged teachers to yell, “Drop!” in the middle of a lesson in order to see if students were prepared at any moment.
Keeping one’s face on the floor could prevent burns and protect it from flying pieces of sharp glass.
They released informational pamphlets that explained the duck and cover position and other strategies to survive a nuclear attack.
https://www.britannica.com/topic/duck-and-cover

Cold War - Duck and Cover Drills by Jordan D.

1. Beginning in the 1950's the United States and Soviet Union had a very tense relationship known as the Cold War.
2. To prepare for nuclear bomb attack elementary and high school students performed emergency drills at school called "Duck and Cover" drills.
3. The duck and cover drills had the student drop to the floor and get under something. They had to lie face down, curl up and cover their head and neck.
4. The United States government worked hard to teach as many people about the duck and cover drill as possible.
5.. Some cities even made small metal dog tags for the children to wear so they could be identified in case a bomb killed them.
6. They sent trucks around the country to show the videos and pass out booklets of information.
7. The federal government estimated that all these efforts would save 27 million people

https://www.history.com/news/duck-cover-drills-cold-war-arms-race
