I associate my influences most with B.F. Skinner. I believe that behavior is such an important thing and consequences are what keep the behavior under control. I also have been studying Harry Wong in another class I am taking and I have really learned a lot from his Effective Teacher series that I hope to use in my classroom one day.

It says what situation each setup is best for. I personally like grouped desks which is easier for collaboration and stations.

b. https://www.tunstallsteachingtidbits.com/2012/08/classroom-tour-2012-2013.html I like how this classroom has mostly neutral colors which create a peaceful and calm atmosphere. I also like how organized and neat the space is and how spread out and roomy everything is.

c. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Affirmation-Posters-Classroom-Community-2877673?utm_source=Pinterest&utm_campaign=FREE%20Classroom%20Community%20Posters%20(POAD) Classroom environment is not just about the physical environment. I want my students to have a loving and nurturing emotional environment as well. These posters would be a great way to make sure your students have a healthy emotional environment.

d. https://insidetheclassroomoutsidethebox.wordpress.com/2012/11/04/the-21st-century-classroom-environment/ This article is a little old, however, I want to be able to provide my students with flexible seating options if needed. If they students are fine sitting at desks that’s great; but if they need other options like yoga balls, couches, bean bags, or little carpets to sit at in order to learn better, I want to have that available for them.

e. http://thecoreinspiration.com/2016/04/ipad-student-training-and-management.html I want my classroom environment to be tech savvy but I want the students to be responsible and the tech to be used appropriately. I will track my students progress in their individual portfolios so I can see their gradual growth. I expect my students to interact with each other and with me as much as they need, as long as the interaction is about what they are working on. I will encourage positive behaviors by verballing praising good behavior and by documenting it on Class Dojo or another behavior system.

Effective student learning and achievement starts with the students getting information for the first time. According to Bloom’s Taxonomy the student must move up the following steps in order to have total achievement; remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create. According to the Depth of Knowledge a student must move through the 4 levels; recall, skill/concept, strategic thinking, and extended thinking before they have total mastery. A “good assignment” must include a clear purpose. The students must be aware of the goal they are trying to get to, if not they might think it is pointless and would put in as much effort.

When I create my own assignments I hope to make sure the meaning and goal is clear and that my directions are appropriate. My assignment should then guide the students by first getting acquainted with the new idea or topic, next being able to use what they learned from the assignment on another project or assignment, and then they should be able to create something from what they have learned from the original assignment.

9. 21st Century Skills - the 5 C's.

I plan to include the 5 C’s into my curriculum as often as possible. Collaboration: I would have the students working in groups and rotating around to different stations. Creativity: I would try new things with my students. I would not just have a paper and pencil assignment for everything. I would have manipulatives and other objects for the students to create with. I would also let the students have a voice with this, they could decide what manipulative to use. Communication: I would have a discussion board for students to comment their thoughts and opinions on, for example a Padlet. After trying a new activity, I could have a couple questions on Padlet about how the activity went and what they liked/disliked about it. This would be a way for the students to have a voice in their learning. Critical-thinking: I could have a group or partner discussion about what we are learning and have questions to guide their thinking. I could also have writing assignments that make the students think critically about the topic and their reflections. Community: I could involve out community in lessons and activities. I could have a project that involves interviewing people in our community or even the students’ parents. They could learn about the people, places, and things in our community and also be gathering information for out assignments.

Music: I can use music videos with pretty much any lesson, EX. to introduce vowels or have the students sign a song to memorize something. Technological arts: can be used in any lesson, students could use iPads, Promethean board, or computers to show what they’ve been learning. Visual arts: students can paint, draw, color, or create pieces as a final project or to go along with their writing or other work.
