1. All the pictures are in black and white and Dreyfus looks sick in some pictures and healthy in others. He also looks like a regular guy who is vulnerable since he is a Jew
2. Zola looks like he is above everything else because he is drawn with angel wings and is holding a lightning bolt. In the last picture it shows him drowning someone which makes him seem like he has a lot of power and is using it in a bad way
3. it says that the military is building proof against Dreyfus but it is depicted as a house of cards which is very weak and could fall at any moment
4. she wrote her name and it almost covers the whole postcard. This could be because she isn't ashamed of being Dreyfus' wife and is standing up for her husband. Today, people usually stand up for one another with protests or on social media they will create movement for a cause. This is kind of what his wife is doing because she is sending him a letter with her name very big which makes it stand out to other people.

1. To me, these postcards portray Dreyfus as more feeble or weak and less powerful compared to the postcards with Zola (under). He's predicted as very thin and miserable. I believe they made him look this way as an indication of his race which is Jewish.
2. Zola is depicted as powerful. They made him seem very mighty, but also controling like a dictator. To me, these postcards were kind of meant to intimmidate some people.
3. This carticature of this postcard are beneficial because you are able to be mean and controversial without getting serious backlash. Caricature also can be funny and entertaining, which attracts and persuades people.
4. What I noticed about this card was that Lucie wrote her name very large. Maybe she is indicating that she isn't ashamed of her name (like the public encourages) and that she supports her husband.

There is also a picture that looks like he s getting caught for something.
2. In these pictures, Zola looks more powerful than Dreyfus. Theres a picture of Zola holding up a flag and it shows that he has accomplished something good and in Dreyfus pictures it just shows a lot of pictures that look like he is sneaking around in one of the photos.\

1) These postcards depict Dreyfus as very human and vulnerable. One of the images shows him so skinny his ribs are visible, shackled and being held by his head, tortured. This shows how easily he can be manipulated because of his status as a Jew and how very little he can do about it. Another postcard portrays him kissing his wife, which showcases his real, relatable emotions and how much he has to lose.
2) These pictures show Zola as physically higher and better than the average person, like a hero who knows something most people don't.
3) This depicts the weakness of the accusations against Dreyfus and how easily all of the evidence piled up would collapse if looked at objectively.
4) The purpose of this form of petitioning is, as it is today, to spread a particular idea about a topic to the masses as effectively as possible. It proves the point that Dreyfus is a good man, and makes him more relatable, as he has a familu.

1. Most of the cartoons and portraits portray Dreyfus in an innocent light. He looks sickly thin, old, but slightly evil in some.
2. Most of the illustrations represent Zola as heroic and almost divinely powerful. He is seemingly associated with God and even has angelic wings in the second image.
3. The label under the image describes the men to be building evidence against Dreyfus. By making the building a house of cards, the artist is basically stating that the evidence is unstable and therefore false.
4. Before the creation of social media, mass mailing and petitioning was the only way to get the word out about your specific cause.

In some of the postcards, Dreyfus appears to be sickly, weak, underfed, and someone you wouldn't take very seriously, while in others, the illustrator depicts him as being more serious.
2. In these postcards, Zola appears to be powerful and commanding. He is depicted as an avenger or liberator of some sort.
3. This postcard shows how the testimony for the Dreyfus Affair was very weak. All the people their are building a house of cards, which is the testimony, and it shows how it is not very strong and, very much like a house of cards, everything is built off of one another and could collapse.

1. these postcards describe Dreyfus as weaker and and more questionable than one might think he is. He is depicted as very ill, sickly, skinny, and in poor health condition. Simultaneously, looks small and intimidating.
2. These postcards represent Zola as highly superior and exceptionally greater than average. He looks very God-like, and powerful.
3. I think this illustration is beneficial and dicey to this information in the sense that things are more simply explained, but bases the whole idea off of more opinional rather than factual information.
4. Petitioning can be a very efficient way

1. These postcards make Dreyfus appear weaker, and sickly. In many of these he is thin, and in one picture, there is Dreyfus as a German statue, mocking him. They make Dreyfus look bad because he is Jewish.
2. These postcards make Zola look almost greater than the average human being. They draw him with angel wings, and to look like the Greek god, Zeus. in the last postcard, the Zola "laundering" the army. Laundering can mean "make acceptable" so he could be trying to make Judaism more acceptable in the army.
3. I think the benefit of portraying information through illustration helps explain things easier, but it can be very based, so it is more opinion based then fact based. The image is showing the general building a weak case against Dreyfus. The house of cards represents the evidence because it is so weak.
4.Petitioning things, if done peacefully, can be a great way to get a point across, or to get a voice out into the public. These letters however, may be a bad idea. Lucie may be upset about her husband, and probably will not want to read and respond to many letters everyday. It would be very overwhelming. This is different from postcards because they have drawings on them (usually) compared to letters, which have writing, and petitions, which is paper with signatures on it

The others however make Dreyfus look very suspicious looking and odd. The one in the middle farthest to the right shows him looking very sneaky implying the truth to the accusations that he is a German spy.

2) They show Zola looking very dictator like. Not kind either. They are trying to show that he is inaccurate with defending Dreyfus and saying that they are anti-semites. He also looks powerful and in the top middle the caption says live Zola The avenger. So they are showing how powerful he is.

3) The house of cards is weak and they are showing that the Dreyfus affair is week

1. In most of them he looks crazy and sick. He looks like he is in poor health. He is shown to be a normal guy in some, but the majority show him as a weak man who needs help.
2. In these pictures he looks powerful and strong. In one he is dunking someones head into something which make him seem evil, but it seems like the artist was going for powerful and capable rather than making him look like the villain.
3. The benefits of a caricature are that you can be more persuasive with your picture, but it also limits your ability to be serious. In this picture the use of caricatures help show how the Chief of Staff really does not like Dreyfus because he is trying to build a case against him. The use of the cards show that he is building a "house of cards" which means the evidence and case is not well put together and could "fall" or not work out. The Chief of Staff in this picture reminds me of the guy in the monopoly game which makes me think the artist tried to draw him as someone who is happy with going against Dreyfus and as if he "has it all". In this picture the men also look like they are all very particular about each card which shows they really want this case against Dreyfus to work out.
4.

1. In these postcards, you can always identify who Dreyfus is because he is kind of like the center of attention but not in a good way. The color of the postcards doesn't make it easy to identify what is happening but you can tell with the fourth photo that he is getting tortured of is being hurt in some way.
2. In these sets of postcards, Zola looks like he is a bad guy in all of the pictures. For example in the first photo he looks like he has two tears on his cheek, and in the 4th picture he is surrounded by bats which kind of represents that he is evil.
3. In this post card its a group of men putting together a house of cards, which I am guessing is supposed to represent the government and it looks like it is about to fall apart in at any given time.
4. I think the purpose of mailing out the postcard from his wife is to show how he actually was as a person from someone who knew him better that anyone else and that being a spy was out of his character. It could also play a role in getting the people to believe he didn't do it and get people to feel kind of not sad but bad for him

He is with his wife in one of these pictures and then in the other one it looks like he is being reunited with his wife.
2. Most of the Zola pictures make him look very powerful and heroic. In one of the others it seems as if Zola is oppressing someone.
3. In this picture, they are building a house of cards. This could symbolize how weak the government is in defending how Dreyfus is a spy.
4. Drefus' wife made her handwriting very big when spelling out her name. This could mean that she wants to show that she stand up for her husband and wants to support his side.

He isn't shown as very powerful, except in the first photo, but you can see as in the 3rd column, middle row, he is sneaking around. He looks a little suspicious though.
2. Zola is portrayed as very powerful in these postcards. He is shown almost like a god in the top mid picture.
3. In this picture, there is a house of cards. This shows a non-stable theme. it shows the military planning against Dreyfus, but it isn't a very stable plan that they have. Their plan could fall very easily.
4. Mass mailing isn't a good thing. It will annoy people and turn them against you. Mass media will do the same. Advertising modestly is better.

But in the real pictures he looks like a normal guy who is powerful and has authority. The bottom left one makes him look like a demon.

2. The real life picture of Zola make him look an adorable little old innocent man. But the pictures make him seem evil, mean, and controlling.

3. The picture is a representation of how strong the arguments behind Dreyfus' accusation are. They are represented by a house of cards which isnt very strong and goes to show how weak the arguments against dreyfus are.

1. In several of the depictions of Dreyfus they make him look weak, defeated, and almost criminal like. On one of the postcards it shows Dreyfus in a bubble and he looks normal yet weak and it is captioned "Je suis innocent" or "I am innocent". I think this proves the depiction that he is pleading for help due to his weakness.
2. Zola is shown to be strong and powerful. In two of the postcards he is merely defied. He is shows as Jesus and as Zeus in another. In one he is shown very powerful for he has armour and wings and he is standing on a dragon. In another he is shown in a more casual form but he is killing/torturing someone. All of the postcards show a theme of greatness and power.
3.This postcards shows all the people and leaders in society against Drefus. It shows the weakness of their claims, and that they claims will eventually collapse and be defeated due to their weakness. Cariciture allows for intesified which can influence someone in a positive or negative way. A downside of caricture is that it limits the expanse of someones interpretation of something.
4.

The first picture looks like an actual picture of him, but the others portray him to be scary or bad looking.
2. Zola looks powerful. In some of the photos it looks like he is powerful but bad. He is pictured in red which could represent devil and evil. This could be a representation of how the anti Semitic people feel about dreyfus and zola.
3. I think these people stacking the cards are representing the anti semetic people in France. They are making a house of cards which could fall at any second. Dreyfus is the house of cards and they are waiting for they day he crumbles and jews get what they feel is deserved.
4. I think mass mailing and petitioning call attention to the matter at hand. No matter which side of the debate your on you will notice this stuff.
