1. A healing "presence" is the ability to be present with the patient; it conveys compassion, caring, empathy, concern and contributes to patient - centered care. It is the act of staying with the patient to decrease their fears and increase their comfort during their hospitalization.
Ex. One example of this is the clinical experience of staying with a patient who has high anxiety levels and an underlying psychiatric diagnosis and who calms down when a medical professional remains with them.
2. The importance of appropriate, gentle "touch" in the clinical setting communicates comfort, healing, understanding and emotion.
Ex. One example of this is the clinical experience of holding a dying patient's hand, who did not have family or friends with them during their hospitalization.
