One important abiotic factor is the soil in the deciduous forest. There are three major areas of this forest type occur in the northern Hemisphere, eastern North america, East Asia, and Europe. They are also found in parts of Russia, Japan, and China. Then there is the climate change in the forest because they are found within warm moist summers and cool winters. Average temperature is 50 degrees F. Average rainfall is 30 to 60 inches a year. In the Northern Hemisphere, the landscape in the temperate deciduous forest has mountains, valleys, rolling hills, and flat plateaus. In the southern hemisphere, dry deciduous forest tend to occur in grasslands where the land is rolling or more nearly level.
