But doing getting to know you activity you can find things that student have in common and try to connect those students. making sure to have a welcoming environment where everyone is safe and included. Also just making sure to connect with all of the student I have in classes especially those that seem to have lesson connections so that they know they have someone in the school that cares about them and that they can talk to whenever needed.

Give the student a job. Teacher helper, collect work, clean board, some type of responsibility or purpose.

I think it is important to connect with students. You can start by knowing their names, asking how their day is, asking about their interests, and overall making students feel accepted and safe. Personally, I ask how the students' day is going before I take attendance. Watching students' faces light up and feel seen and wanted is what they truly want. You never know what others are going through, so taking a moment to ask students how their day is going can spread positivity in the classroom and might make someone's day!
