These were solid matter made out of marble or clay turned into different figures such as angels, saints, nude subjects, or Greek gods and goddesses. My initial thought was sculpture as a form of art, requires a lot of time to create. It has elaborate designs to capture the audiences' attention and interest. Due to a sculpture's intricate details, I am amazed and astonished with how much work a sculptor would put into the hair, facial features, and the muscles of their subject. Despite these attributes, I never really thought of sculpture as a solid matter that possesses movement, rhythm, and contrast. As I understood from our reading, sculpture is an expression of an artist's ideas or feelings through the imitation of living forms. This fine art is also a form of education, through the construction of the visual and tangible forms of spiritual beings, we gain a visual representation of the higher beauty. It is very tempting to define sculpture as an imitative art because of it emulating nature. Sculpture is so beautiful that it is even mentioned in the reading that the only thing it lacks is breath. 

During the module I have learned how to look at sculpture in both an objective and subjective way. I was able to interpret the work of art not just through the subject itself but also in relation to space, mass, and the other elements and principles of art. Looking at sculpture this way makes me appreciate the art more. I am able to relate to it and everything makes sense to me, all its details and contrasts forming unity and harmony.

This sculpture is beautiful because of its intricate design and details which convey movement, tension, and a story. To start with, the stance of Pluto together with the curvy lines forming his flexed muscles show the force he is exerting to grab and hold Proserpina as he rapes her. In contrast, we see the helplessness of Proserpina through the smoothness of her body with less curvy lines and edges. We see the power and strength of Pluto through his size and the different shade of the marble which adds definition to his muscles. The sculpture’s movement is towards opposite directions, both left and right. Proserpina is moving towards the right as she resists the force exerted by Pluto, and Pluto towards the left as he pulls her towards him. Despite the tension and contrasting details in this sculpture, we see the unity and harmony of its entirety through the story it portrays which adds to its beauty. Before taking up Fine Arts as a class, I understood architecture as simply the art of designing a structure people could walk in and out of. It has different parts such as the foundation. interior design, and exterior design. After learning how everything began with the post and lintel and its evolution to the column and entablature, I gained curiosity on how the bases of each building progressed. With our technology today, I want to learn about the new strategies, designs, and techniques architects' use for the bases of modern-day buildings and structures.

On the other hand, I would also like to dig deeper into interior design. I am interested in how each furniture or ornament is strategically positioned and organized. I have learned that a building or a house is not just a structure we go in and out of, it embodies art. According to the reading on form follows function, an architecture was built with a purpose and possesses distinct qualities and design principles that are considered to be objectively beautiful. However, this does not mean that an increased function of a building, the more brilliant it is. A construction was built to serve a particular function because form without function would solely be a solid matter. It was an art form that shows different events, people, things, or basically anything that strikes or has meaning to the artist. I knew that painting has its own elements, technique, and style but I never entirely understood the difference between each one; how to create depth, the illusion of space, the importance of hue , or what difference texture gives an artwork. To begin with, the incorporation of space in painting by Raphael in his work: The School of Athens. Paintings are highly traditional, however, Raphael was able to innovate and add his own touch to his work. First, he did not just made use of the walls but he also painted the frescoes on the ceiling, integrating space in his work.  This gives us the feeling of being inside the painting instead of just standing right in front of it. In reference to the Cambio, Raphael personified the cardinal virtues on the ceiling seated in thrones and has more than 3 exponents for each frame unlike the convention he based it from. On the other hand, the Borgia frescoes painted by Raphael portrayed the liberal arts in separate frames. Moving on to Michelangelo, he was able to play with shade and hue innovating depth in painting.
