         <description><![CDATA[<p>Rainsford kept begging and asking Zaroff to go leave the island and go home but Zaroff wanted him to stay and go hunting.</p><p><br></p><p>""General," said Rainsford firmly, "I wish to leave this island at once."<br>The general raised his thickets of eyebrows; he seemed hurt. "But, my dear fellow," the general protested,<br>"you've only just come. You've had no hunting--"<br>"I wish to go today," said Rainsford. He saw the dead black eyes of the general on him, studying him.<br>General Zaroff's face suddenly brightened.</p><p>He filled Rainsford's glass with venerable Chablis from a dusty bottle.<br>"Tonight," said the general, "we will hunt--you and I."<br>Rainsford shook his head. "No, general," he said. "I will not hunt.""</p>]]></description>

"I congratulate you," he said. "You have won the game."<br>Rainsford did not smile. "I am still a beast at bay," he said, in a low, hoarse voice. "Get ready, General<br>Zaroff."<br>The general made one of his deepest bows. "I see," he said. "Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the<br>hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford." . . .<br>He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided. "</p>]]></description>
