"Adab" in the context of knowledge refers to the etiquette, respect, and moral conduct that one should embody when seeking or sharing knowledge. This concept is rooted in various cultural and religious traditions, particularly in Islamic teachings, where it emphasizes the importance of humility, patience, and respect for teachers and fellow learners. 

Key aspects of adab in knowledge include: 

• Have a sincere intention

•  Study with ihsan ( do with all heart)

•  Tawakkal (reliance upon Allah)

• Eliminate bad habits (stay away from sins and the routes that lead to them)

• Thank Allah ( especially after learning new chapter)

Ibn Abbas RA said: "I humble myself when I seek knowledge, so I am honored when I am asked to teach knowledge."

Al-quran as The book of Guidance

Through its teachings, the Quran serves as a comprehensive guide for both personal and communal life, influencing the beliefs and actions of millions around the world.

The Qur'ān was sent down for us to derive guidance from it and to increase our faith in Allah, the Prophet ﷺ and the hereafter.

“A Book We have sent down to you so that you may bring forth mankind from the darkness into the light...” [14:1]

3. Fasting (sawm)

4. Zakat

5. Perform Hajj

There are five key practices that all Muslims are obligated to fulfil throughout their lifetime. These practices are referred to as pillars because they form the foundation of Muslim life. The five pillars of Islam are Shahada, Salah, Zakat, Sawm, and Hajj.Each of the five pillars work in tandem with one another to bring the essence of Islam as a religion of peace and submission to Allah SWT, into the lifestyle of every Muslim 

• Belief in Allah

  Allah is the only Creator, Sustainer, King, and Planner of everything in existence.

• Belief in Malaikat (Angles)

  Malaikat were created to obey the commands of Allah and they never transgress His laws or commands.

• Belief in Kitab

  Al-quran, Injil, Taurat, Zabur

  refers to the belief and acknowledgment in full that the book revealed by Allah s.w.t. is the pen of Allah s.w.t. the real thing, all its content is right, true and fair.

• Belief in Massengers and the Prophets

  full belief and acknowledgment that the messengers were sent by Allah s.w.t. to man as a guide to guide man to the path that pleases Him. (Theres no new prophet, messenger and kitab after Muhammad SAW death)

• Belief in Qiyamah (The Resurrection day)

  The Day of Judgment is the day when Allah judges mankind for their deeds. Every human being will be resurrected from their graves and will be given their book of deeds – both good and bad. They will regret the sins they committed as well as the good deeds they had missed.

• Belief in Qada' and Qadar

  Allah decrees for every single creation based on what has preceded in terms of His Knowledge and in accordance with His Wisdom. Belief in this pillar is to believe that everything that happens, good or bad, happens only according to Allah’s divine decree.

Ihsan is a matter of taking one's inner faith (iman) and showing it in both deed and action, a sense of social responsibility borne from religious convictions.

Some Islamic scholars explain ihsan as being the inner dimension of Islam whereas shariah is often described as the outer dimension. Ihsan "constitutes the highest form of worship" (ibadah). It is excellence in work and in social interactions. For example, ihsan includes sincerity during Muslim prayers and being grateful to parents, family, and God. 

There is a certain amount of etiquette for seeking knowledge which the seeker of knowledge should follow such as patience, purity of intention in action, acting upon what you know, always being aware that Allah is watching, making the best use of time, being cautious, precision and focus, studying books, choosing a good companion, and having good manners towards the shaykh. 

This week delved into the wisdom (hikmah) derived from essential acts of worship, such as salah (prayer), sawm (fasting), zakah (charity), and hajj (pilgrimage).

Using selected Qur'anic verses, participants explored the spiritual and practical benefits of these obligations, reflecting on their ability to nurture intellectual growth, discipline, and devotion.

Group discussions provided opportunities to share personal insights and strategies for implementing these practices in daily life.

SEEKING KNOWLEDGE

One day, the Angel Jibril came to Prophet Muhammad in the form of a handsome man dressed in pure white clothes. He asked the Prophet about three main aspects:

i) Islam: The Prophet explained that Islam consists of five pillars:

• Syahadah

• Performing the five daily prayers.

• Giving zakat.

• Fasting in the month of Ramadan.

• Performing Hajj for those who are able.

ii) Iman (Faith): The Prophet stated that Iman includes belief in six things:

• Belief in Allah.

• Belief in His angels.

• Belief in His books.

• Belief in His messengers.

• Belief in the Day of Judgment.

• Belief in qada n gadar

iii) Ihsan: The Prophet explained

• Ihsan as worshipping Allah as though you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, then know that He sees you.

• After Jibril left, the Prophet told his companions that the man was Moril, who came to teach them their religion. This hadith outlines the foundations of Islam (Islam, Iman, and Ihsan) and includes signs of the Day of Judgment.

SALAH WITH KHUSHU

Focused on preparing for saläh, this session covered the conditions for its acceptance, including taharah (purification) through wudu' or tayammum.

Participants reviewed the pillars of prayer and discussed strategies for achieving khush (humility and concentration). Emphasis was placed on the spiritual connection during salah and practical ways to enhance mindfulness and focus before, during, and after prayer.

Adab in Knowledge:

1. Learn for Allah: Study to please Allah, not to impress others.

2. Respect teachers: Be polite and grateful to your teachers.

3. Stay humble: Always be ready to learn more.

4. Be patient: Learning takes time, don't rush.

5. Use your knowledge: Practice what you learn every day.

The Quran as Guidance:

1. Life guide: The Qur'an shows you how to live the right way.

2. Clear rules: It tells you what's good and bad, and how to worship.

3. Reminder: It helps you remember the Day of Judgment.

4. Grow better: Following it makes you a better person.

KUTUB(BOOKS)

• Belief in Allah: Muslims believe there is only one God, Allah, who created everything and controls everything. He is all-powerful, knows everything, and is always there to help.

• Belief in Angels: Angels are

• Allah's helpers, made from light.

They don't have free will and always obey Allah. Each angel has a special job, like Jibril who brings messages to prophets or the Angel of Death who takes people's souls.

• Belief in Books: Allah sent books to guide people. Some of these are the Taurat, the Zabur, the Injil, and the Qur'an. Muslims believe the Qur'an is the final book that hasn't been changed.

  
  

The session emphasized the virtues cultivated through salah, such as submission to Allah (tã'ah), self-reflection (muhäsabah), modesty (iffah),

and humility (tawaddu).

Participants reflected on how incorporating these virtues into their prayer can enhance their relationship with Allah, improve self-discipline, and develop better interpersonal behavior. Stories from the lives of the Prophets were also discussed to draw lessons on overcoming challenges with patience and faith.

Belief in Rasul: Messengers are special prophets chosen by Allah to deliver His message and guidance to their people. They are given specific missions to call people to worship Allah alone.

Belief in Anbiya' : Prophets are people chosen by Allah to guide their communities, teaching them to do good and avoid wrong.

This week's focus was on the virtues of fasting (sawm), including patience (sabr), mutual respect (takrim), and empathy (rahmah). Participants discussed how fasting fosters self-control, gratitude, and compassion for others, particularly those in need.

The session also highlighted how sawm encourages Muslims to value natural resources, practice moderation, and build a stronger sense of community through shared worship experiences.

CONCEPT OF IHSAN AND ITS RELATION TO ISLAMIC

ESCHATOLOGY

Definition:

Ihsan means doing everything with excellence and sincerity, as if you can see Allah, and even if you can't, knowing that He sees you.

It's about doing your best in worship and in life, always being aware of Allah's presence.

Connection to the afterlife:

i) Accountability: Since Allah sees everything, you'll be judged for all your actions on the Day of Judgment. Ihsan helps you live in a way that pleases Allah.

ii) Best state for Judgment Day: By practicing Ihsan, you aim to meet Allah in the best way possible, knowing you tried your hardest to live a good, honest life.

So, Ihsan helps you live a life that's ready for the Day of Judgment by doing your best in everything and being aware of Allah all the time.

The final session centered on the virtues of zakah (obligatory charity) and sadaqah (voluntary charity), emphasizing reliance on Allah (tawakkul) and the strengthening of brotherhood (ukhuwwah). Participants reflected on how acts of charity purify wealth and souls, foster unity among Muslims, and help address societal inequalities.

Discussions also included practical ways to promote generosity and create sustainable initiatives to support those in need.

Adab towards parents includes:

1. Respect - Speak politely and never raise your voice.

2. Obedience - Follow their guidance as long as it's not against Islamic teachings.

3. Gratitude - Always thank them for their efforts and sacrifices.

4. Kindness - Treat them with care, especially as they grow older.

5. Patience - Be patient even when they are difficult or demanding.

6. Dua - Constantly pray for their well-being and happiness.

In conclusion, maintaining adab towards parents is essential in Islam. It involves showing respect, kindness, patience, and gratitude while obeying them and consistently making dua for their well-being. By doing so, we fulfill our responsibilities and earn blessings in this life and the hereatter.

The final week explored the virtues associated with hajj (pilgrimage) and 'umrah, focusing on tadhiyyah (sacrifice) and taqwa (God-consciousness). Participants reflected on the spiritual significance of pilgrimage as a journey of self-purification and devotion. The session also included practical discussions on planning for hajj, understanding its rituals (ihram, tawaf, sat, wuquf, and stoning), and the lifelong lessons of submission, patience, and unity derived from the experience. A role-play activity was conducted to simulate the key aspects of hajj.
