"With school turning out more runners, jumpers, racers, tinkerers, grabbers, snatchers, fliers, and swimmers instead of examiners, critics, knowers, and imaginative creators, the word 'intellectual' of course, became the swear word it deserved to be." (Bradbury 58)

We see this theme when Clarisse is first talking to Montag. Montag explains to Clarisse that houses have always been fireproff, but Clarisse tells Montag that she recalls that firemen used to get rid of fires rather than cause them. Montag reacts by laughing and acting as if it were nonsense. Another scene is when Beatty is talking to Montag about books. Beatty calls book worthless, because it tells stories of people who aren't even alive. Beatty begins to speak harshly about those who want to read books and tells Montag about the destructiveness of reading.

"Strange. I heard once that a long time ago houses used to burn by accident and they needed firemen to stop the flames." (Bradbury 8)

The symbol of the brain in jail connects to the theme, because in the book people are imprisoning their knowledge and they don't even realize it. Society traps their knowledge because they view knowledge as dangerous. This is a big example of ignorance; they don't see that being different is better than all of them being exactly the same and thinking as one. The quote calls 'intellectual' a swear sword similarly to the symbol showing that it's a crime.

The gif of the burning book represents the theme of knowledge vs. ignorance, because people gain knowledge from text such as books. Ignorance is shown, because society is trying to get rid of the ability to hold knowledge. The quote connects to the theme, because it shows that even Clarisse is aware and holds knowledge of the firemen's past whereas Montag had no clue about it.
