After listening through their album, I can say that all their songs are related to love, and the big hits are mostly composed after this dark and twisted isolated love life that the young people live in. Therefore, is easy to understand why the designer chose to use a simple palette of colours based of black and white, since their both hues together represent simplicity and dullness. But once separated, black can represent emptiness, loss, darkness, and white can be hope, light and purity. The black and White duality is something that the band talks about in on their song “No Party Anthem”, as it follows:

                “(…) The look of love - the rush of blood 

The ''She's with me'' - the Gallic shrug 

The shutterbugs - the Camera Plus 

The black & white - the colour dodge (…)”

As said before, the use of colour was extremely important in the creation of the album’s visual identity, the cool yet dark aesthetic is something that attract the young folk, for their own feeling of confusion and wish to fit in. The artist, which even after a lot of research I was not able to identify, cleared my mind over an aspect of Graphic Design which is: how to simplify such heavy information in a way to show the public the overall feeling of the topic. Sometimes the design is inside the music and just needs a little push with colour to achieve its goal.

Let us start with the background; a picture of an old green blanket in front a window, which shows what appears to be a forest through it. Now, what really makes this picture unique is not the old camera effect, nor is the warm yet dull colours you would see on a winter’s morning, is the fact that this photo was taken on his bedroom, on his bed. The place he spent so much time in for almost ten years. It really speaks volumes, of course someone who did not research about his life would not know this, but once the person finds out about it really brings them and the artist closer. Which is one of the main focus of Flatsound’s music; bringing feelings together and trying to show people their not alone.

Continuing on, now a little more focused on the soundtrack, “Sleep” is divided in two parts: the first is extremely intimate, with poetry, and lyrical flourishing. But the second is a bit rawer, and focused on “experimenting with ambient, atmospheric sounds. Texturally it's bliss, effortlessly utilizing the lo-fi aesthetic that numerous other acts strive for, but comes so naturally to Flatsound”. According to the website “Crack in the Road”. 

As the picture shows below, there is a duality; is the same drawing, only drawn two times and having a part where they get together. Such simplicity brings the feeling of emptiness, and the pose makes it feel like something is going on, and maybe he can barely bear with it. The drawing is extremely important, since it’s a way of communication with the public, he’s trying to show the duality of his feelings, and how hard it is, not only for him, but for all of us.
