At first the christian missionaries were accepted and they converted some of the japanese people. Later though the shogun didn't like them forgetting their original culture so he banned christianity. They were repressed for 20 years until 1637 when 30,000 peasants and samurai started an uprising. This lead to the belief that christians were the bad guys and they persecuted most christian or forced to follow some sort a buddhist.
