The first ring surrounding the Central Business District (CBD) is a Zone of transition. This includes industrial uses mixed with poorer quality housing.

There are 3 additional rings which are all residential. As the distance from the CBD increased, there was a zone of working-class housing, followed by high quality housing and finally a zone of larger homes and lots of suburban areas.
