Scene 1: Owen and Kaysha meet on a train platform, they went out in secondary school- they were in love- Owen asks her if she wants to go for a drink, she's got a boyfriend so declines. He gets on the train instead and dies in the bombings.
Scene 2: Rose (Older Kaysha) works at a pub, it is the 10th anniversary of the 7/7 bombings and there is a news report on the radio talking about it. Evie walks in the pub clearly upset- Rose recognises her from somewhere, it turns out she’s Owens sister.
Jacob is Roses husband and the boyfriend she left Owen for on the train platform that day and knows that she still feels awful about leaving him.
He tries to make Rose say she blames him for Owen dying and Rose says she doesn't but she can't help but wonder what might have happened.
Scene 3: The alternate train line scene, Kaysha says she'd love to go for a drink with him: he never gets on the train. We see their whole lives pan out in front of them.
Scene 4: Back in the pub Rose admits she blames Jacob and that she has never loved him quite the same way since Owens death.
Ideas in our group chat 06/02/17:
• Kaysha came up with the name “IF”
• Reverse physical theatre leading up to the alternate outcome
• Repetition of the number 56. It’s the number of people who died and could be quite haunting. Choral speaking? Name of the pub?
• Newspaper articles from the bombings plastered all over the theatre and the seats.
• Trying out physical theatre at a train station. Getting to grips with the surroundings, understanding how we could move around the station/stage. Record this so we can watch it back and work from it.
• 7/7 ripple effect. How many people have died because of it? The first terrorist attack of many.
