The theme is not always clear throughout the book, but personally I think, that when you search for the theme, you get more deeper into the book and learn more about it. I recommend this book for mature readers. However, I do think that this is one of those books that you must read at least once in your lifetime, and I will gladly read it more than once.

A book full of emotion, friendship, and family. Overall, I think this book was amazing. I love the way it’s presented from the beginning and how well it goes together. The book is based in Germany, during Hitler’s rise to power. For the first 100 pages, it may seem uninteresting because nothing really happens or you might not understand what is going on. But I guarantee if you keep on reading then it’ll start to get interesting as everything is slowly unravels. Having “Death” as a character and a narrator makes the book different compared to other books. “It” gives hints, spoilers, and future events that happen in the book, but not enough to make you understand what’s going on. It makes you want to keep reading. Death is the narrator and also gives his perspective in the story as well. It makes you want to figure out what or when that event happens. There are many different perspective from the other characters in the book. Although the book kinda jumps into different time periods in the Book Thief’s Life, towards the end everything is revealed.

Without giving too much information, The Book Thief is basically about a girl named Liesel who is adopted by a couple named Rosa and Hans Hubermann. They experience hardships of earning money, not having enough food, and the war that’s happening around them. On top of that they decided to hide a Jew in their basement named Max… 

Based on the book and the relationships that Liesel had, I think the theme is:  “Even through the hardships in life, courage is the key to staying strong and powering through.” I think this is a theme because Liesel, the main character goes through many struggles in her live such as losing a sibling, never seeing her mother, and many other events(that I won’t spoil).

- the descriptions of settings and bits of other languages make it easy to get lost in the book

- the characters feel like real people 

- the story it tells is not well known so this book is very important

- the writing style helps bring out the story

- sad and horrific, like many WWll stories  

Katrina Gaudette Beller First Hour

Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys is a phenomenal piece of literature. The story is set in 1950s New Orleans and the french quarter is sizzling with secrets.The main character, Josie Moraine, is an extremely intelligent young girl with a passion for education. Her dream goal is to go to college, but she has multiple hoops to jump through.  

Throughout the story the author keeps you wanting more with her compelling word choice and writing style, producing sentences such as, ¨Yes, but i've read it was a tumultuous affair, he challenged me.΅ 

The way she works her character's dialogue gives you a clear look into each of their different personalities. Ruta Sepetys tends to use a wide range of vocabulary, potentially making it a challenging read for some.

I would give I would give it  a 5/5 and recommend it to anyone who has a passion for the historical fiction genre. If you feel like giving yourself a challenge, and reading a good book I definitely recommend Out of the Easy and hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
